  2. The beginning Kelly was born on the 19th of April 1970 in Pembury Kent her farther a Jamaican car mechanic her English mother Pam Norman 17 at the time of her birth . She started athletics at the age of 12 at Tonbridge athletics Club her coach David Arnold . In 1983 she won the English Schools 1500 metres.

  3. Army Career At the age of 18 she joined the British Army. Starting as a lorry driver in the woman's Royal army corps [wrac], soon becoming a physical training instructor. Later on in her career becoming British army judo champion and competing in army athletics events. In 1998 she was appointed member of the military division of the British empire (MBE).

  4. 2004 Athens Olympic Games At the Athens Olympic games Kelly competed in the 1500 and 800 metres races winning gold in both. She also set a new British record for the distance of 1500m. Becoming the third woman in history to do the 800m and 1500 m double. The first British woman to win two Olympic gold medals.

  5. DAME KELLY Kelly Holmes was made Dame of the British Empire (DBE) in 2005 by the Queen. She retired from athletics in December 2005. In May 2009 she was made president of Commonwealth Games England. Dame Kelly currently works with children helping them keep fit and have fun in sport.
