  1. Everything you need to know about ASandALevels WhatareASandA Levels? AS(AdvancedSubsidiary)andA(Advanced)levelqualificationsnormallytake2 completeyearsfull-timeinschool,althoughonecanalsoopttostudypart-time. It is divided into two parts, with one part studied each year. The 1st part is known as theASlevel(AdvancedSubsidiarylevel)andthe2ndpartastheA2level.Mostofus areawarethattheASLevelisaqualificationonitsown,andtheASLevelcombined withthe A2Level forms thecomplete ALevel qualification. Who areASandA Levels for? Generally, yourequireatleastfiveGCSEsingradesA*-C.Sometimes,youneeda gradeBorabove atGCSEin aparticularsubject totakeit atASor Alevel. SomeschoolsalsoaskyoutohaveaGCSEgradeofCoraboveinMathsand English.

  2. Therearearound80ASandAlevelavailablesubjects.Youcancarryonwith subjectstaken inYears11 and12 oropt for newones. MoststudentsstudyingforAlevelschoosethreeorfourASlevelsintheir1styear. What this means is that you can keep your options open about which subjects to selectas a full A level. Howareyouassessed? ThemajorityofASandA2arenoweachmadeupof2units–althoughsome subjectsstill have 3. You’regenerallyassessedonacombinationofabout70%writtenexamsandabout 30% internal assessments. This will vary from subject to subject with some being totallyassessed through writtenexams. There is an assessment of practical skills in a few subjects such as Science or Art. AllAlevelsmustalsocoversome‘synopticassessment’asaportionoftheA2.This means testing your understanding of the entire subject and will generally contribute 20%to the full A level. Whatif your examsdon'tgowell? If you think something didn’t go well with marking your exam, your school can ask for a re-evaluation or recount. If you’re still dissatisfied, your school can appeal to the awardingbody,andthenfinally(ifrequired)totheindependentExaminationsAppeals Board. Youcanalsoopttoresitindividualunits(althoughtherearetimelimits).The awardingbodywillconsiderthehighermarkfromyourtwoattempts.

  3. Howlongdoesittake tostudyAS/A Levels? ASlevelsdemand180guidedlearninghourswhichisequivalenttojustunderhalf an A-level and, if taken full-time alongside other courses, normally take a year to complete. A-levelsinvolve360guidedlearninghoursandoftentaketwoyearstofinishiftaken full-timealongside other courses. Pleasenote:-Guidedlearninghoursarethedirectedstudytimeoneneedstodo AS/Alevel qualification.
