Conveyor Belt Scanning – An Overview For the safety of the belt is it important to keep the cords in top condition. BeltProConveyor Belt Scanning system provides all the information about the belt with access to belt carcass and splices. The cord damage is graphically depicted reflecting the extent of the damage. The latitude and longitude information are provided to locate the damaged location.
The system is preconditioned by processing the cord by creating a magnetic field around the belt. Once the magnetic field is created, any type of cord damage or separation create a minor voltage once it passes through the sensing transducer made of more than 2 cords. The output is sent to the chart recorder, here the voltage fluctuations is noticed and results in continuous transients.
Over the last decade a number of scanning systems have been introduced that uses magnetic technologies. All the data is presented in a similar manner to the CBM system. The data are interpreted and calibrated by well trained and experienced technicians. The data is presented in a user-friendly format providing visual graphic. Using colored graphic images, cord corrosion or discontinuity is represented.
Every fault in the cord is corresponded to the coloured image with the exact longitudinal and lateral location. The location of every cord and splice is virtually produced. In addition to the graphical image, the system is designed to be resistant to variables that influence data from other scanning systems, belt flap, belt speed variations and EMF interference.
The steel cord belt scanning is commercially available since 1980s and is also known as Conveyor Belt Monitor or CBM. The general summary of the conveyor belt condition provides an overview of full belt for every revolution. The faults in the cords and splices are clearly identified in the data. The trace is similar to walking down the belt to find out faults. The graphics show every location on the cord end in the splice.
