  2. When the whole world is transforming digitally, the government must also adopt the technology. The government must employ technology for carrying out its day-to-day administration duties. The government can apply technology in other fields like exchanging information, transactions, collecting taxes, providing information portals, etc. The government can also use technology while conducting exams for government jobs. Governments are no longer independent entities. They are answerable to the public for all their actions. The digitalization of paperwork allows government officials to concentrate on necessary jobs rather than wasting time doing tedious administrative work.   3. Advantages of digitization of the public sector: Speed: The speed with which the government carries out its jobs matters to the citizens. The administrative tasks burden the administrative staff. The digital system can do the job of many people at once, the speed of carrying out the work increases. The efficiency of the employees increases as there is no need to carry out tedious paperwork. Transmission of data in high volumes is possible at the speed of lightning. The information required by the citizen is accessible only with the click of a button.

The government has to send many letters, reminders, receipts, default papers, etc. Technology replaces paper and reduces the cost of buying and storing paper. The cost of storage of the humongous amount of paperwork is way more than that of digital data.

  5. Digital data is safer- Various tools are available for the protection of digital data. There are fewer chances of digital data being stolen, whereas papers can easily be lost. Digital data is also safer when transmitted from one place to another. Digital data is also safer than paper data in times of natural calamities and disasters. Digital data lost can also be retrieved whereas, paper data is irreplaceable once it is lost.

  6. Transparency- The transparent working of the government can increase the trust of the citizens. The business and policies of the government can be made available to the public via digital media. The information is uploaded on the government website.

  7. Saves Time- The use of digital data can save the time of the government and the citizens. The citizens do not have to wait in long queues to clear their doubts. The citizens can access the information they need from the safety of their homes. They do not have to sift through unnecessary information. There is no need for manual entry of the queries. The government officials have to keep a manual record of everything. Digitalization allows government officials to work on more necessary duties.

  8. Government’s accountability: Transparency and accountability are two sides of the same coin. Technology keeps the citizens well informed about the ongoing work of the government. They can hold the government accountable for their mistakes and actions. The government is for the people and by the people. The government has to answer if the people ask.
