  1. Rice Exporters Of Chhattisgarh Demanding Continuation Of 5% Tax Exemption Of Mandi Fee Which Is Set To Expire In 60 Days Located in Asia, India is the second largest rice producing nation after China and the country ranks first in terms of rice exports. With a mammoth share of 40% of the global rice trade, India exports rice to more than 150 countries around the world, and from Dubai to China, different countries depend upon different varieties of rice for different needs. Rice exports not only help the nation earn a name for itself in the global market, but also help the rice exporters of the country in growing their income while boosting the country’s GDP. As per reports, India exported rice worth nearly 721 billion rupees in the fiscal year 2022, which is nearly 10% more in comparison to the previous fiscal year. The YoY rise in revenue from rice exports is primarily due to the growing demand for Indian rice in different global markets and active government involvement in this regard.

  2. The Government of India keeps on taking initiatives to boost the morale of rice exporters and it has done the same this time as well. On 13th of March, 2023, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) organized an export outreach program in Raipur with the exporters and investors, with a view to increasing the exports of rice from the state of Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh: The Seventh Largest Rice-Producing State Of India Chhattisgarh, a landlocked state in Central India, produces 6.09 million tonnes of rice on average, every year. Approximately 3.82 million hectares of land is covered under paddy plantation and the state ranks seventh in terms of rice production. Talking of exports, primarily non-basmati rice is exported from the state and this is why the state of Chhattisgarh holds significance when we talk of rice production and rice exports. Chhattisgarh’s Rice Exporters Demands During The DGFT Meet During the export outreach program in Atal Nagar Nava in Raipur on Monday, rice exporters from Chhattisgarh demanded the continuation of a 5% tax exemption of the mandi fee on rice exports which is set to expire in the next 60 days. Citing Chhattisgarh as a landlocked state, they also demanded a concession on the transportation of goods for export and the modernization of processing plants. The Bottom Line Pro-industry policies framed by the government have helped the state export 22% more in the last five years and the same can be expected this time around as well. Dr. Sarveshwar Bhure, District Collector of the state said that special efforts are being made, not only for the export of rice but also for processed spices, construction machinery, and materials, and riding on his statements, people believe a favorable decision will shortly be made by the government and the authorities.
