  1. Three bedroom house electrical design project Three bedroom house electrical design project Requirements and standards: Electrical design Project is no easy task. It requires a lot of expertise. A detailed study is necessary before installation work for three bedroom house. The engineer must take into account the quality and specific requirements, as well as the price. Different options need to be explored. The choice of room use, decoration, hobbies and activities of the various residents is now crucial for electrical design. The electrical installation cannot provide a universal system for all imaginable arrangements. The client is the key person in determining the final arrangement. BS 7671 (wiring regulations) will often recommend that a project be discussed with the customer. The flexible design approach is now often practiced. Standards for the home sector are determined by the National Building Council (NHBC) . Minimum requirements Here is an overview of the basic requirements for a three bedroom house with 120 m 2 floor area. This would be a typical speculative real estate development (Figure 2). 1. Rooms: Small kitchen; dining room; living room; cloakroom downstairs; master bedroom with en-suite bathroom; second double bedroom; small single room; landing bathroom or shower room; 2. Heating: gas or oil central heating; 3. Garden: small garden at the front and at the back. Standards National Building Council (NHBC) The NHBC sets minimum standards for accommodation and services, which are shown in Table 1 . It should be noted that houses vary in size and use, so the values given should be considered a minimum. Table 1 – NHBC Recommendations for a Home. 13 sockets (double socket counts for two sockets) Electrical outlets Room Remarks

  2. Where houses have separate areas, the kitchen should have at least four exits and the laundry room two. Kitchen / Utility 6 When devices are provided, at least three outlets should be for general use. Utility 3 Dining room 3 At a double exit, the family room should be close to the TV aerial socket Living room 4 Three for the master bedroom. Two for the other bedrooms Bedroom 3 (2) Landing 1 room 1 Combined bedrooms must have outlets equal to the sum of the number of individual rooms, with a minimum of seven in the case of kitchen / utility and one other room. Lighting Every room should have at least one lighting point. Bidirectional switching should be provided for stairs. Smoke detector For this two-story house, two inter-connected, mains powered alarms are required. Applicable wiring rules 13 A sockets 1. Building regulations now require outlets, wall switches and other similar accessories should be located in living rooms at suitable heights between 450 and 1200 mm from the finished floor. 2. Any socket outlet with a rated current not exceeding 20 A, used by ordinary personal equipment for outdoor use, must be provided with additional protection by means of a 30 mA differential. 3. No 230V outlet, except shaver plugs conforming to BS EN 61558-2, is permitted in bathrooms and showers.

  3. 4. The 230V sockets must be located at least 3 m outside the limit of zone 1 and provided with a 30mA RCD protection. Lighting 1. To avoid danger and inconvenience, there should be more than one lighting circuit. 2. In a bathroom, all equipment must be suitable for the area in which it is installed. 3. Wall switches and other accessories must not be installed in zones 0, 1 and 2. 4. Cord switches must be installed outside of zones 0, 1 and 2, but the cord may hang in zones 1 and 2. 5. Equipment using current is subject to restrictions in zones 0, 1 and 2. 6. Equipment installed in zones 1 and 2 must have protection against water ingress of at least IPX4. 7. Careful study of BS 7671: (most recent version), Section 701 is recommended.
