  1. It’s something more important than Oil, SOIL Earlier, people talked more about oil. But, soil degradation has become a popular issue for global concern. Let’s view what the commotion is all about. There are differenttypes of soil degradation like water erosion, wind erosion etc. What is Soil Degradation? It is a decline in soil quality caused by human activities, has been a major global issue during the 20th century. There is an increasing importance because of it’s impact on world food security and quality of the environment. Causes of Soil Degradation? The primary causes are: Deforestation Overgrazing Use of Agrochemicals

  2. DEFORESTATION Deforestation is the permanent removal of trees to clear the land for agriculture or grazing, or using the timber for fuel, construction or manufacturing. OVERGRAZING Overgrazing occurs when we expose plants to intensive grazing for extended periods of time, or without sufficient recovery periods. It can be caused by either livestock in poorly managed agricultural applications, game reserves, or nature reserves. USE OF AGROCHEMICALS Scientists have found that overuse of some of these pesticides and agrochemicals changes soil composition. And disrupts the balance of microorganisms in the soil. This stimulates the growth of harmful bacteria at the expense of beneficial kinds. Impacts of Land Degradation There are many effects of soil degradation. The loss of fertile soil makes land less productive for agriculture. It creates new deserts, pollutes waterways, and can alter how water flows through the landscape, potentially making flooding more common. Soil is the most important element for a human to survive as it is the source of food to all. If we do not take step to prevent it, it will bring us to our end sooner. Soil degradation is a big issue to be overlooked. Here are some soil degradation solutions. Read other pollution problems in world.
