  1. What are 2D Shapes? - Definition & Examples The alphabet “D” in either 2D or 3D stands for “Dimensions”. Understanding this makes it a whole lot easier for anyone looking to understand what 2D is or what 3D is. A 2D surface or shape, effectively has two dimensions i.e. in the form of length and breadth. This is the best definition that anyone can give every give about 2D. But still there are many questions in people’s minds about 2D shapes, and that’s mostly because we reside in a 3 dimensional world where we can not just perceive length and breadth of an object but also its height. A 2D world would look very different from ours and anyone living in it would not be able to perceive any shape at all like we do i.e. from the top. They would only have lines of an object to

  2. follow and by measuring the size or orientation of these lines would they able to tell what shape is it and how many sides it has etc. Squares and triangle are good examples of 2D shapes unless you add height to them. Let’s go on and take a look at other common questions that most people have about 2D. 1. 1.How To Define 2D Shapes? ? Any shape that can lie flat on a paper or a plane is a 2D shape. 2D shapes are present all around you. Any drawing on the wall near you is most probably a 2D shape. Anything that you draw on a piece of paper without creating its height is a 2D shape. On top of this, squares, triangles, rectangles and most other shapes can be drawn in 2D. One of the common usage of 2D shapes or drawings around you are the images you see on most traffic signs. 2.How Many Different Types Of 2D Shapes Are There? Common 2D shapes are all those common shapes that you see around in the form of squares and circles etc. A shape with any number of sides (n-gon, where n is the number of sides a shape has) can be drawn in the form of a 2D shape if it only constitutes of a breadth and a length but not height. 3.What Makes a 2D Shape? The only distinct characteristic that we can share without a doubt about 2D shapes is that it is flat always. And since it’s a shape, it will automatically be enclosed as well. Since nearly all types of shapes can be 2D shapes, because 2D is about perception and geometry, there can more properties than can assigned to it. 4.Are 2D Shapes Touchable? Yes, you can touch 2D shapes but you cannot hold them in your hand since they don’t have a height which makes it impossible for you to put them in your hand in any manner whatsoever. The Renewed Interest In 2D: In the recent past, there has been a renewed interest in what 2D is and how it functions because of the growing use of 2D animations in video marketing. From corporate demo videos to brand collateral videos, 2D animation can be used almost anywhere and is one of the most popular forms of video around.
