Synthetic vs Mineral Air Compressor Lubricant

One thing that you should consider when deciding whether your air compressor needs mineral or synthetic lubricant are the seals inside it. It’s best to first check with the manufacturer of the compressor so you can determine which lubricant will work best for your unit and for your intended application. 1. Synthetic vs Mineral Air Compressor Lubricant

  2. The right lubricant choice is very important in a compressor. In fact, it's very important in any piece of machinery some synthetics attack certain types of seals. So you can't just change a mineral oil into a synthetic oil just because your machines are running hot. You need the check with your manufacturers, whether the seals inside the machine are compatible. If they're not you can't use a synthetic lubricant without changing the seals. The other alternative is that if you are running a mineral oil and your machine is running hot and you’re considering the synthetic for helping it out in its hot environment. Well, if it's okay with the seals, then it’s not just a case of just topping it up. You've got to drain the oil out, flush the machine, refill it, there’s a procedure to go through to make sure to protect the longevity of your machine.
