Tajikistan Travel and Destinations To have an unforgettable trip to Tajikistan, there are two important things one should keep in mind: first, make sure you know what exactly you want to see and where to visit in this country.   3. Khujand is the capital of northern Tajikistan, and the second largest city in the country, as well as one of the oldest cities in Asia. It was founded by Alexander the Great over 2,300 years ago. Being one of the main centers of the Silk Road, the city relished successfulness and wealth. This era left behind number of palaces, great mosques and the city's citadel, which, however, could not resist the Mongols attack and was destroyed.
