However, depending on how you use your Android TV box, it could potentially be considered a violation of copyright law. For example, if you use your Android TV box to stream pirated content, then you could be liable for copyright infringement. Additionally, if you sell or distribute Android TV boxes that are pre-loaded with pirated content, you could also be held liable for copyright infringement.
While there is no federal law against the use of Android TV boxes, some states have enacted their own laws. For example, in 2015, Colorado passed a law making it illegal to sell or distribute an Android TV box that is "configured to engage in the business of illegally streaming or downloading copyrighted works." If you are caught violating this law in Colorado, you could be fined up to $2,000. Additionally, any devices used to commit the offense can be confiscated. So, while Android TV boxes are not currently illegal in the United States at the federal level, there are some states that have enacted their own laws against them.
