We don’t deny that oral surgery is frightening, but it’s important for you in certain situations. No matter what, you cannot avoid this. If you do so, you will suffer the consequences, that too, long term. In this post, we will discuss when and why dentists prescribe oral surgery to their patients. But, before that, let’s understand what oral surgery is. About oral surgery- Oral surgery is defined as a specialized area of dentistry that involves surgical treatments of various oral and maxillofacial conditions, which include teeth extractions, bone grafting, and jaw surgery. Oral surgery may be required to treat a variety of conditions, ranging from tooth decay and gum disease to impacted wisdom teeth and jaw misalignment. When would you need oral surgery? When you get an impacted wisdom tooth Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, typically emerge in the late teenage years or early adulthood. However, if there is not enough space for them to come through, they can become impacted and cause pain, infection, or damage to surrounding teeth. In these cases, oral surgery may be necessary to remove the impacted teeth. When you lose a tooth Dental implants are used to replace one or more lost teeth because of injury, decay, or other reasons. This dental process includes inserting a small titanium post into the jawbone surgically. This post fuses with the bone over time. Dentists attach a crown or other dental restorations on the post after the implant gets secured. When you have a misaligned jaw Misalignment of the upper and lower jaws causes eating, speaking, and breathing problems. Dentists prescribe jaw surgery to reposition the jaws and improve all oral functions. When you are suffering from an oral cancer
