  1. 5 Moments that defined Chennai Super Kings' title-winning campaign Emotional, ecstatic, euphoric! How else would you describe the night gone by? Shane Watson saved his best for the final as his 57-ball 117 helped Chennai Super Kings own the IPL’s final frontier, getting past the Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in probably what was one of the best finale victories in eleven editions of the tournament so far. As the men in yellow celebrate their return to the big stage after a gap of 2 years, we look back at the five moments that defined their campaign this year. Dwayne Bravo sets the tone It’s Match 1 of the IPL and Chennai Super Kings are playing the defending champions Mumbai Indians in their home ground. Most importantly, they are playing as a unit in yellow after a hiatus of two years but that didn’t deter them. Dwayne Bravo was destined to be the hero on this special occasion as he pulled off a stunning victory single-handedly to kickstart their campaign. Bravo blasted a 30-ball 68 with three fours and seven sixes to turn the tables on Mumbai as CSK snatched a victory with just one ball to go.

  2. MS Dhoni’s finishing skills Turning back the clock by a couple of years might be easy, doing that by almost half a decade is pretty tough or impossible. Enters Dhoni, and what we witnessed from home this year left everyone in awe. Dhoni was finishing matches like he did once upon a time for breakfast. His 34-ball 70 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore will be remembered for long as he turned back the clock by at least 5 years, sending his fans into a frenzy and the critics into deep silence. Throughout the IPL, he brought his finishing skills to the fore and upped the entertainment ante in the IPL. He amassed 455 runs, his second-best season in terms of runs, at a staggering average of 75.83 and a strike rate of 150.66. That’s really something, isn’t it? Rayudu is back and how! Ambati Rayudu deserves a special round of applause. In his second coming in the IPL, he batted the opposition out of wits most of the times. An exemplary discipline in his skills and fitness made him CSK’s top-order personnel and boy, he didn’t disappoint. A 62-ball 100 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad was one of the best moments for him and CSK, as they continued their victory march towards the playoffs. On top of it, his selection in the then recently-announced squad worked wonders for his confidence. Overall, Rayudu finished the IPL season as the fourth-highest run-scorer with a tally of 602 runs in 16 matches at an average and strike rate of 43.00 and 149.75 respectively. Faf du Plessis takes Chennai to the final Realistically speaking, the first qualifier was the only match where the Super Kings looked out of sorts and it seemed that the road to the final was not going to be easy. And guess who came to the rescue this time? Faf du Plessis made his bat talk when it mattered the most. With wickets falling like sticks around him, he made a masterly 42-ball 67 mixed with patience and aggression at the right time. In what can be a surprising fact for many, it was just his fifth match of the tournament but the execution of the plan, impeccable. Shane Watson finishes off in style He is not a new kid on the block when it comes to playing IPL finals. Having been a part of the victorious Rajasthan Royals squad in the inaugural edition in 2008, he had a decent experience to back it this time, and the result – a match-winning century that totally left the opposition clueless and devastated. An injured Watson made sure CSK had its moments of glory after starting off quite slowly. A 57-ball 117 threw the Sunrisers out of the race and the men in yellow had their hands of the trophy after a long wait of 6 years. Watson scored 555 runs at the top of the order with two centuries and two half-centuries and also chipped in with 6 wickets. What a brilliant all-round performance to say the least! As they always said, CSK is a team for the finals. With the instincts strongly indicating that the same squad won’t be there around for long, it is the current moment that the boys deserve to cherish!
