  1. Best Selling Books There is an old adage which goes that when you open a book; you open a new world. Books are that critical in our lives and they are generally packed with knowledge and understandings regarding various sectors of our daily lives. For example, you can find information on living a happy and fulfilling life, love and relationships and prayer among other areas. India has a large pool of writers because it is large, diverse nature and complex history. Subsequently, here are some of the Indian top selling books. I. A Suitable Boy This book definitely finds itself if not the top then among the bestselling books by an Indian author called Vikram Seth. This widely acclaimed work of Vikram Seth is set in the post- independence Indian background and revolves around 4 families. The story primarily revolves around Mrs. Rupa Mehra’s journey to finding a suitable boy’ for her daughter called Lata who is 19 and trusts in love at first sight. Other issues such as changing family relations, caste and class tensions and Hindu- Muslim strife are also greatly explored. II. The God Of Small Things This novel by Suzanna Arundhati, his debut, revolves around a family in 1960s in the southern state of Kerala, India. There is a range of issues covered in the book with the most important one being the babyhood experiences of fraternal twins. Other issues also greatly explored include the caste system, communism and religion. III. A Fine Balance This literature piece by Rohinton Mistry always appears among the Best Selling Books. And that it does for a reason. The story captured in the book is set in 1975, also popularly known as “The Emergency”. During that period of civil unrest, Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister.

That is from the period of civil unrest to the present. IV. The White Tiger This Man-Booker prize-winning book by Aravind Adiga also boasts to be among the top selling books. The darkly amusing story of Balram Halwai, a poor village boy, covers two main areas that are corruption and class struggle in India. Even though the village boy manages to eventually transcend to the top, be successful, there were acts of profanity he committed along the way. V. The Palace of Illusions This award-winning novel by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni revolves around the 'The Mahabharata, ’Hindu mythological epic. The story is told from the perspective of a female, Draupadi or Panchali, from a male dominant epic. The remarkable way the author manages to explore her description of jealousy, love and insecurity is the reason why this piece of art is widely considered as a top fictional account of Mahabharat.
