What Is Cement Hydration The process of what is cement-hydration explains how cement reacts with water to form a hard, durable mass that binds construction materials together. When water is added to cement, chemical reactions begin immediately, producing compounds that give concrete its strength over time. This transformation generates heat, known as the heat of hydration, which is essential for proper setting. The mixture gradually becomes firm as crystals form and interlock within the paste. Adequate curing is important to support these reactions and prevent cracks. Temperature and moisture levels also influence how effectively hydration takes place.

Comparative Study on Effect of Fly Ash and Rice Husk Ash on Strength of Concrete

The construction of concrete pavement is growing across the country due to its strength, durability, better serviceability and overall economy in long run. The need is to develop better quality pavement sections, which can bear heavy loads. This can be achieved by using high compressive strength concrete 40MPa made up of hydraulic cement having fine and course aggregates. In the work embodied construction work is done with the help of wastage from industry. Fly ash is a by product of burned coal from thermal plants and Rice husk ash is the by product of burned rice husk from paper plant. Considerably Fly ash and Rice husk ash are used as supplementary cementing materials to improve the properties of cement concrete. The present study is done to develop pavement quality concrete by partially replacement cement with Fly Ash and Rice Husk Ash. The aim of study is to compare the strength characterises of pavement concrete which as achieved by concrete mixtures. The work done in this study shows the effects on the behaviour of concrete produced from cement with combination of FA and RHA at different proportions on the mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive strength, flexural strength. The replacement of cement were done at three levels is 10 , 20 and 30 with both Fly ash and Rice husk ash as well as combination of both Fly ash and Rice husk ash. The tests on hardened concrete were destructive in nature which includes compressive test on cube for size 150 x 150 x 150 mm at 7 and 28 days of curing as per IS 516 1959, Flexural strength on beam 150 x 150 x700 mm at 28 days of curing as per IS 516 1959. The samples were prepared with different water cement ratio as 0.30, 0.35 and 0.40 for flexure design i.e. 5.5 MPa, 5.0 MPa and 4.5 MPa respectively. The result so obtained showed that it is possible to achieve saving in cement if replacement is done. The study proves to be beneficial in area where traffic load is less, also will use wastage released from thermal plants and rice mills also reduces economy as this materials is easily available. The waste material from industries is in bulk amount, as lesser amount of these used as supplementary cementing materials so these can be used as filling soil in subgrade of highway pavement. Comparative Study on the Properties of Cement Stabilized Lateritic Bricks Sourced from Different Locations

There is need for tested and proven alternative source of alternative walling materials in third world countries such as Nigeria. This will foster massive provision of houses for the populace. The aim of this research is to compare the properties of cement stabilized lateritic bricks sourced from different locations. Soil samples were taken from three locations within the study area to laboratory for Abrasion, Impact, Compressive strength and Water absorption tests. Results showed that the stabilized lateritic bricks A, B and C have water absorption values varied from 17 to 23 , 32 to 36 and 38 to 42 respectively for 7 28 days at 1 cement content. For 2 cement content, water absorption values varied from 15 to 20 , 24 to 28 and 32 to 36 for lateritic bricks A, B and C respectively. While sandcrete block has water absorption values varied from 9 to 13 for 7 28 days respectively. It is also observed that stabilized lateritic bricks A, B and C have compressive strength values varied from 1.33 to 1.71N mm2, 0.32 to 0.42 N mm2 and 0.21 to 0.29N mm2 respectively for 7 28 days at 1 cement content. For 2 cement content, compressive strength values varied from 1.52 to 2.09 N mm2, 0. 40 to 0.63N mm2 and 0.29 to 0.35 N mm2 at 7 28 days for lateritic bricks A, B and C respectively. While sandcrete block has compressive strength values varied from 0.54 to 0.74 N mm2 for 7 to 28 days respectively. The higher the cement content, the lower the absorption rate and the higher the compressive strength. The compressive strength also increases with age. Lateritic brick is more cheaper than sandcrete block for construction of building because it require little cement content. Further study should be conducted for another source of stabilizer. However, the production of Portland cement, an essential constituent of concrete, leads to the release of significant amount of CO2, a greenhouse gas one ton of Portland cement clinker production is said to creates approximately one ton of CO2 and other greenhouse gases GHGs . Environmental issues are playing an important role in the sustainable development of the cement and concrete industry Naik and Moriconi, 2005 .There is a need to replace a part of cement by some pozzolanic material to reduce the consumption of cement and the environmental pollution can be checked to some extent. Some of the industrial wastes like fly ash, silica fume, blast furnace slag etc have already established their usage in concrete. Recently the research has shown that the waste glass can be effectively used in concrete either as glass aggregate or as a glass pozzolana. Waste glass when grounded to a very fine powder shows some pozzolanic properties because of silica content. Therefore the glass powder to some extent can replace the cement and contributes for thestrength development and also enhances durability characteristics Chikhalikar S.M. and Tande S.N., 2012 . Demand for recycled glass has considerably decreased in recent years, particularly for mixed glass. Glass is cheaper to store than to recycle, as conditioners require expenses for the recycling process. There are several alternatives for the reuseof composite glass. According to previous studies, all these applications, which require pre conditioning and crushing,are more or less limited and unable to absorb all the quantities of waste glass available. In Sivakasi, India, large volume of paper sludge is discharging from paper mill daily. These discarded paper sludge is clogging the pores of the land, when it is disposed over the land and thus creating the environmental pollution and illness to the peoples. Therefore, it is planned to examine the possibilities to utilize the waste paper sludge ash for the manufacturing of concrete in the construction industries for the replacement of cement. In this works, it is planned to perform the SEM and EDX analysis for the paper sludge ash obtained from paper mill. It contains. On the basis of the results obtained by performing the SEM and EDX analysis, it was observed that the size of the waste paper sludge ash is less than 50u00c2u00b5 and the waste paper sludge ash contains large amount of oxides of calcium, silica and aluminium. The components and their proportions of the minerals of the waste paper sludge ash is very resembles with the cement. Hence, it is suggested that the waste paper sludge ash could be replaced for the partial replacement of cement for making concrete. Also, the size of the waste paper sludge ash is less than size of the cement particles and therefore it helps to improve the durability performance of concrete. R.
