  1. The Tomcat Tool for rigging up smaller IDBOPs to a Drilling or Workover BOP Stack

  2. What does it do? • Crosses over large BOP to small bore for wireline, coil tubing, snubbing or pumping • Rig up and rig down time is minutes • Achieves full working pressure of the annular preventer

  3. Benefits? • Has a full working pressure primary seal • A full working pressure back up secondary mechanical flow barrier • Enhances safety for the crew and operation • Saves time and money

  4. What is it? • Two (2) pieces:- shooting nipple - hold down flange

  5. Initial rig up of Hold down Flange • Install the hold down flange with the stack with standard studs • Test flange with the stack (e.g., upper BOP) • Full bore for drilling operations

  6. How does HPSN rig up? • When you need small bore BOPs install the HP Shooting Nipple (HPSN) to hold down flange • Installs with acme threads (12 turns at low torque)

  7. How does it work? • Upward or downward forces are supported by the flange • Primary seal is annular element • Secondary seal is lip seal

  8. Hold-down flange assembly • Forces absorbed by threads • Pressure is sealed by lip seal and ring gasket

  9. What is it good for? • WL work on drilling stacks • Coil tubing on drilling stacks • Snubbing operations • Pumping operations

  10. What are the advantages? • Saves lots of time and costs • Operations are safer for personnel and rig • Reduces climbing to install conventional systems • System is properly pressure tested

  11. Cost advantage? • Conventional method with a requires removal and reinstallation of bell nipple and a crossover = 10 hrs • Tomcat Tool = 1 hour • Savings 9 hours per run • At $1500/hr for rig time savings = $13,500 per run (before rental costs)

  12. Testing Detail? 1) Install flange 2) Install bell nipple 3) Run test plug in wellhead 4) Run flange test plug 5) Pressure test whole system (which pressure tests cap and upper ring gasket seal)

  13. Test integrity? • Upper ring gasket is tested • Lip seal in annular cap is tested • Tomcat system is full rating of the annular BOP • Has secondary seal not provided in conventional system

  14. Proto type test Test plug • Upper ring gasket is tested • Lip seal in annular cap is tested • Tomcat system is full rating of the annular BOP • Has secondary seal not provided in conventional system Hold-down flange 10m test

  15. Normal Operations • Full working bore • Thread is protected • Seal area is protected • Protector is removable

  16. Design loads 11” 5m version • Thread 1130kip • Studs 2000kip • HPSN connections in body 2000kip tension or compression • HPSN body 2000kips tension500kips compression • Burst 14,000 psi WP = 5,000 psi • Test pressure 10,000 psi • Lip seal WP = 5,000 Test 10,000 psi

  17. Specifications • SF according to AISC • Mgf by API 6A PSL-3 • H2S spec to NACE MR-01-75 • Materials ASTM 4130 22 Rockwell C hardness • Welding according to AWA • All outlets flanges to API 6A PSL-3 • Material traceability and accountability • Protected under USA Patent law (use and equipment.

  18. Features • Forces (up/down) are supported fully • Two (2) flow barriers • Quick and efficient rig up and rig down • Tests the upper BOP section(not done normally) • Flange is full bore when not in use • BOP is fully functional (can close blind)

  19. Risk Reduction Indonesian blowout during logging 2001 Cost of control $44m Loss of one year of drilling

  20. Wireline Blowout

  21. Total Parts Required

  22. R-BOP + Tomcat Tool • Bell nipple is a R-BOP housing • If well is unstable run R-BOP assembly • Drill ahead at balance

  23. R-BOP that will match up with HPSN system • Star Rotating Head • Rotating head system • WP = 1000 psi • Test 2000 psi • No lubrication system required

  24. The TomCat Tool TM has U.S. Patents awarded for “High Pressure Adaptor Assembly for use on Blow Out Preventers” and “Method for Rapid Installation of a Smaller Diameter Pressure Control Device Usable on Blow Out Preventers”. U.S. Patent Number 7,267,179 U.S. Patent Number 7,334,634 U.S. Patent Number 7,383,887 U.S. Patent Number 7,464,751 TomCat Tool Patented Process
