Advanced practice is based on knowledge and skills acquired in a post-basic program of study and clinical experience. A person must hold a current Kentucky ARNP registration to be employed as a nurse practitioner in Kentucky. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS In addition to successful completion of a Board approved program of registered nursing, a person must have successfully completed an organized post-basic program of study and clinical experience recognized by the regulatory agency, in concert with the appropriate national nursing organization. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS The schedule of certification examinations is determined by the national certification organizations. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION There are no age or residency requirements. Must have a current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky and be certified as a nurse practitioner by the appropriate national nursing organization. Initial license fee is $80.00. Biennial registration must be renewed by October 31 in even years, at a fee of $55.00. Registration and reciprocity with other states varies.
