What does paraphrasing mean?
Paraphrasing To put something into your own words
-Your own interpretation of ideas that were said by someone else. -A way to borrow from a source.

Try this… She entered the office and shut the door aloud.
3. Change Word Forms • Use an adverb instead of an adjective • Use a verb to replace a noun.
John is an accurate typist. John typesaccurately.
4. Changing active to passive voice • Example: • A tornado destroyed the house. - active • Change into passive The house was destroyed by a tornado.
Try this… • My mother washes the floor every Saturday.
Try this… • The doctor had treated hundreds of patients before he received his medical license.
Hundreds of patients had been treated by the doctor before he receive this medical license.
Change from quoted speech to indirect speech • Original text: “I kept wondering: which way woud I have gone if I had not waited?” (Jackson 18) • Indirect speech: Jackson wondered which way he would have gone if he had not waited.
Original text: “No! I will not submit! I will struggle first!” (Zitkala-Sa 27). • Indirect speech: Zitkala-Sa cried that she would not submit, and would struggle first.
It’s better than quoting lots of information. • You don’t quote as much, leaving more room for your ideas. • When you put an idea in your own words, you understand it better.
