  1. Always Take Proper Precautions When You Expose Your Ears to Loud Noise Most of us live and work in noisy environments and conditions, and even when we relax there is no guarantee that it will be quiet around us. When we look at how people spend their free time, it is clear that it often happens in noisy circumstances. This is certainly true for hunters and other shooters, be they wing-shooting enthusiasts or target shooters at the range, or white-tailed deer hunters in Alabama, or big game hunters in Africa. Loud noise, especially gunfire, is a problem – as it can damage the ear after repeated exposure, even though it is not uncommon to hear of individuals that have suffered tremendous hearing loss after even one or two shots having been fired too close to their ear. This is true, too, for employees in noisy factories, or at airfields and in the military where gunfire and jet engines being started all the time is not strange. All these shooters and professionals are exposed to the negative effects of loud sound. The intensity levels of sound are measured in what is known as decibels (dB). When dB reaches certain high levels, individuals may start to experience discomfort because of the loud sound, a discomfort that may even become dangerous because it may cause pain in the ear and, even, worse, deafness. Everybody knows that listening to soft music is less stressful than loud rock and roll close to the ears, similar to having to listen too far away from gunfire as opposed to shots being fired right at one’s ear. The term ‘NIHL’ (Noise-Induced Hearing Loss) is well known in many circles. It refers to hearing loss (also deafness) as a result of exposure to loud sound, which is very often avoidable, provided one takes the necessary precautions. Therefore many individuals – hunters, sharpshooters, police officers, and military personnel, shooting instructors among them – now make sure they wear protective gear to help guard against the damaging effects of loud noise.

  2. Listening to a conversation around you is not the same as having to listen to gunfire close by, or a jet engine being started next to you. Therefore options to protect the ears during shooting exercises and other events are being looked at all the time. Some shooters wear disposable foam plugs, others may prefer earmuffs that are placed over the ears to block out sound. Others may prefer more modern earplugs with technologically advanced features that are built into plugs to offer digitally enhanced protection for the ears near loud sound. They are manufactured to block out or eliminate sudden loud sounds such as gunfire, but they will allow users to hear normal sounds at acceptable decibels. This is of tremendous benefit for shooters. Hunters want to be able to hear their prey move in the bush, they may want to have a conversation with other hunters, but they want to protect their ears from loud sounds such as a rifle being fired at their ear. The same applies to the target shooter that wants to listen to commands without having to listen to all the shots being fired. These scenarios are often dangerous to one’s hearing, therefore earplugs – technologically advanced –are the answer for many. The best ones are custom made, in other words, as a bespoke product custom made for a specific person. You actually order your set (one for each ear) from a leading manufacturer that takes impressions of your ears and then makes them for you. This kind of protection for one’s ears is becoming more and more popular in many countries, for example, parts of the UK and many states in the US where hunting and shooting are popular activities. About Us Electronic Shooters Protection (ESP) has been in business for more than 20 years and provides the best in terms of electronic protection for ears.
