  3. Prioritisation Criteria - Acute There is local demand and only the RHH/LGH/NWRH/MCH can provide the service on sustainable basis. This is because: Speciality skills are available and recruitable in the numbers required to safely deliver services Critical mass is required – service quality / finance / support services High cost equipment is employed in treatment protocols There is a training and education role that can only be fulfilled at the RHH/LGH/NWRH/MCH Funding structures support the provision in an acute hospital setting (secondary or tertiary) 1 • There is consistency with the strategic plans for delivery of health care in Tasmania • The demand for services is as defined in criteria 1 • There is more than one potential provider of the acute hospital setting (secondary or tertiary) in Tasmania, and they have a desire to provide these services. (Alternative providers could include another public hospital, private sector, interstate hospital, ICC’s) • Services could be provided on a sustainable basis and in a clinically safe manner with access to an appropriate range of medical cover. • Proposals would be consistent with strategic plans for delivery of health care in Tasmania 2 • There is a demand for services, however these COULD be provided in primary and/or community care settings • Patients do not have a requirement for 24/7 specialised nursing care • There is NO SIGNIFICANT RISK that the patients may require rapid access to acute back up services • The use of technology such as E consultations could support service provision 3 • There is a demand for services, however these SHOULD be provided in primary and/or community care settings • There is MINIMAL RISK that the patient may require rapid access to acute back up services • The use of technology such as E consultations could support service provision 4 • Discretionary services - The need for this service to be delivered in the public sector is discretionary • The service has been recognised as delivering limited clinical value 5

Core Service Ratings Service has to be provided by North West Regional Hospital/Mersey Community Hospital 1 Service has to be provided by a 2 Hospital Regional Hospital/Mersey Community Hospital , but not necessarily North West Service has to be provided 3 somewhere but COULD be in an alternate setting Service has to be provided 4 somewhere but SHOULD be provided within a community setting 5 Discretionary Service • North West Area Health Service
