  2. Lifeguard Training – PE 702 (2 units) • Get certified as a Lifeguard • Lifeguard Instructor – PE 705 (2 units) • Get certified to train lifeguards • Both classes meet Tues/Thurs • - lecture from 4-4:30 in D-301 • - Lab – from 4:30 to 6 at Pool • - Instructor: L. Delzeit

  3. Scope of the Class • Lifeguard Training • Lifeguard Instructor • Waterfront Certification • Personal water safety • First Aid, CPR, AED, O2 Admin.

  4. Certfications • Basic Cert – LGT, CPR, FA, AED, O2 • Waterfront certification • Title 22 – includes Childbirth + more • LGI – requires current LGT basics • Shallow Water Attendant • Just FA, CPR, AED, O2 • Personal Water Safety knowledge

  5. Books & Materials • PE 702 • Lifeguard Training Manual – 2006 • Lifeguard Management (opt) • PE 705 • Lifeguard Instructor Packet – purchase from Staywell and get free binder • Basic level books including Management

  6. Grading – PE 702 • A grade = LGT, FA, CPR, AED, O2 + attendance • B grade = good attendance + partial cert. • C grade = bad attendance + partial cert. • Try to meet your personal goals and have good attendance

  7. Grading – PE 705 • A grade = Recertify in LGT, FA, CPR, AED, O2 + attendance PLUS written lesson plans PLUS demonstrated teaching skill • B grade = good attendance + partial completion of assignments, certifications, and teaching skills. • C grade = bad attendance + partial completion of assignments, certifications, and teaching skills

  12. Entrance Skills • 500 yards swimming nonstop • Demonstrate basic strokes • Tread water 2 min, no hands • Surface dive 9 feet • Pick up 10-pound brick • Underwater swim – 15 feet
