A brief guide to demister pads

Demister pads are generally of two types - upload type, and download type. In the upload type, the opening for air outlet or the flange is above the pad. While in the download type the opening is found below the level of the pad.<br><br>Given the nature of industries, they are installed in, corrosion of the pad filaments is very natural and expected. Proper cleaning methods have to be applied which shall prevent the pores from getting clogged and shall increase the shelf life.

A Brief Guide to Demister Pads Demister pads also referred to as mist pads, are widely used in petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and metallurgical industries to avoid loss of precious chemicals due to evaporation, reduce air-pollution, and counteract mist formation. They are basically a thick cushion like thing made by layers of wire mesh. They come in various shapes and sizes to suit different purposes - Round shaped embedded Circle shaped embedded Standard flattened type Standard ginning type High penetration type Shock absorber type Rectangular shaped Equipped with qualities like:- Light-weight Porosity Rust-resistant Longevity Easy installation, the demister pads are an important industrial apparatus. ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● They are fitted at the top of the packing tower to ensure efficiency. In order to understand how it functions, let's follow this flowchart:- Firstly, the gas and the mist is allowed to rise up. Secondly, as they rise up, they collide with the wire mesh and form large droplets. And finally, the droplets grow bigger and fall into the boiling potion due to the gravitational force of the earth.

  2. In this way, wastage is reduced. And the control of the release of harmful gaseous and poisonous material into the atmosphere in also achieved. Proper care has to be given to the quality of the metal used in the manufacture of the pads. To expedite the process of cleaning, sometimes acid is also used, that is very harmful to the metal filaments, rather sunlight and non-corrosive detergents are better options.
