  2. Post Study Work Right Visa in Canada After completing their studies, students can apply for post-study work rights under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program. It is an effort by the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to retain international students. Under this programme, international students get a 3-year open work permit and they can work for any Canadian employer. It is not necessary for an applicant to have a job offer at the time of application. The duration of the studies must be at least 2 years to obtain the 3-year work permit. But, if the programme was less than 2 years but more than 8 months, the student can still obtain a work permit for the same duration as the programme of study. The student must have completed his/her graduation from a public institution or from a private institution that works under the same rules and regulations as public institutions and receives at least 50 percent of its financing for operations from government grants. The student must have a study permit before applying for a post-study work right visa in Canada.
