How to Personalize Your Engagement Ring With Birthstones

Engagement rings are among the most emotional pieces of jewelry that a person can wear. Most of our customers want to add a personal touch, however small, to their engagement rings. It could be a hand-engraved design, a unique bespoke message, or, as we like to do at Gilan Jewellers, the inclusion of a birthstone. A gemstone celebrating your partneru2019s birthday month is an elegant gesture that shows thoughtfulness and adds a touch of individuality to the jewel.

  1. How to Personalize Your Engagement Ring With Birthstones Engagement rings are among the most emotional pieces of jewelry that a person can wear. Most of our customers want to add a personal touch, however small, to their engagement rings. It could be a hand-engraved design, a unique bespoke message, or, as we like to do at Lebrusan Studio, the inclusion of a birthstone. A gemstone celebrating your partner's birthday month is an elegant gesture that shows thoughtfulness and adds a touch of individuality to the jewel. We'll look at how a birthstone symbol can be used to create an engagement ring. Know your stones The Mohs Scale is used to determine the durability of precious stones. Some cookies are more durable than others and can withstand being worn daily. The diamond, which is the hardest natural substance, scores 10 out of 10. Meanwhile, garnet, a softer gemstone, only gets a 6.5. The most popular engagement rings are those with hard gemstones, but there are ways to make the softer birthstones live longer and happier lives. Only the pearl is too delicate to withstand everyday wear. It only scores a 2.5 out of 10 on the Mohs Scale of hardness, and it is easy to scratch or abrade. Moonstone and alexandrite, which are both

  2. tougher options for June birthstones (the month that is associated with the Pearl), can be a good choice. Garnet (6.5-7.5) Amethyst (7 ) in February Aquamarine (7.5-8) APRIL: Diamond (10 MAY: Emerald (7.5-8) JUNE: Pearl (2,5), moonstone (6-6.5), and alexandrite (8.5) Ruby (9 years old) Peridot (6,5 - 7,5) and spinel (8), SEPTEMBER: Sapphire (9) OCTOBER: Opal (5 - 6.5), tourmaline (7 - 7.5) NOVEMBER: Topaz (8), citrine (7) DECEMBER: Turquoise (5.5), tanzanite (6 - 6.5), zircon (7.5) OPTION 1: A SOLITAIRE ENGAGEMENT RING A traditional solitaire setting is the best way to showcase a gemstone’s natural beauty. It's simple, timeless, and very effective. Raised claws allow light to enter from all angles, creating maximum sparkle. This setting is ideal for gemstones that are resistant to wear, such as ruby, sapphire, and diamond. Smaller carats of soft gemstones such as tourmaline and emerald, are best secured in an enclosed rub-over setting. OPTION 2: TRILOGY ENGAGEMENT RING INCLUDING BIRTHSTONES FRACKING A DIAMOND The flanking of two colored gemstones with a central diamond is a classic design. It allows the wearer to embrace the romantic timelessness of a sparkling stone while also adding color and symbolism to their unique personality. It's a great option for anyone born any time of year, regardless if their birthstone is soft like an aquamarine or a tourmaline. OPTION 3 - A BIRTHSTONE HALO CARD Halo settings are all about impact. The halo setting is all about impact. It surrounds a central stone, usually a diamond, with paving stones (small sparklers) that are secured in a row by metal prongs or

  3. beads. This creates a magnified visual effect and enhances its size and brilliance. The halo is best suited to birthstones which are more resilient and softer when they are small. It also works well with colorless diamonds in an engagement ring to give it maximum sparkle. Although the diamond is the most popular stone for June and September birthstones due to its hardness and classic connotations, rubies and sapphires are also very resilient and can be used as a halo around the central stone. OPTION 4: A SOLITAIRE DIAMOND WITH BIRTHSTONES SET INTO THE SHOULDERS Why limit yourself to the head of the ring? The band can be embellished in the same way as our signature engravings. If your partner's birthday month coincides with a gemstone that is below 8 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness then this style allows you to incorporate its magic in smaller quantities. OPTION 5: A SECRET SETTING Secret settings do exactly what they say on the box; they secure a gem into the inside band of the ring, hiding it away from view for those who are chosen. This is an excellent way to personalize and add romance to your partner's birthstone, whether it is soft or hard, sparkling or dull. It will not compromise the classic simplicity your partner is looking for. The small size and high security of the secret setting make it an excellent choice for soft or hard birthstones.
