  2. We use several electrical devices and appliances at our home which make our life more enjoyable in so many ways, but it doesn’t mean that it is free from risks. Electricity can be very dangerous if handled callously. Most of the electricity-related accidents that occur in homes are due to lack of knowledge on electrical safety. Here are some tips to prevent electrical hazards at your home:

Don’t overload your outlets Every electrical device has its own capacity to carry certain amount of electricity, but many of us plug several number of appliances at the same timewhich become the reason of explosion or fire. If you have a lot of appliances to plug in simultaneously, use a power strip that can safely accommodate your needs.

  4. 2. Main power off If main power is switched on during any work on the home’s electrical system, it can be a major reason for electrical shocks and accidents. Always switch off main power before going for any electrical maintenance activity.

  5. 3. Keep electrical appliances away from water Water is a good conductor of electricity, so keep all electrical appliances away from water such as sinks, bathtubs, pools or overhead vents that may drip.

Give your appliances proper space for air circulation to avoid overheating Withoutproper air circulation,electrical appliances can overheat and short out, and can become an electrical fire hazard at your home. Make sure that all appliances have proper air circulation, and avoid running appliances in enclosed space.

  7. 5. Never attempt electrical repairs by own Most of the people never call an electrician in case of any electrical repairing at their home and do repairing by own. It could be the reason of dangerous electrical hazard at your home. Always call licensed electrician for electrical repairing works.

  8. 6. Fire Extinguisher Always have a fire extinguisher at your home. Water is a good conductor of electricity and hence should never be used to put out any electric fire.

  9. 7. Place dangerous appliances out of reach of small children Toddlers and small children are very curious and they love to explore everything. Parents should put tamper resistant safety caps on all unused electrical outlets. In addition, all electrical appliances should be keep away from children until they are old enough to operate them properly and understand electrical safety at home.

  10. At last but not the least, don’t risk you and your family safety by waiting for something to go wrong. If any electrical failure occurs at your home, immediately speak with a licenced electrician. You should also schedule electrical home inspection for safety of your home.
