Learning Outcome 1.3: Describe the assessment procedures Topic 1 : Overview on assessment procedures 1.:Definition: Assessment is the process of collecting evidence and making judgments on whether competence has been achieved. 2.Purpose of assessment Is to confirm that an individual can perform to the standards expected in the workplace as expressed in the relevant competency standards. 3.Interests of assessment • Promote, assist and improve students’ learning • Inform teaching and learning progress • Provide data that can be communicated to a range of people about the progress and achievements of individual students or groups of students. 4.Types of assessment • Formative Assessment: Is given during the training. It helps to make sure that all performance criteria are achieved. • Integrated Assessment: Is given at the end of the module delivery. It helps to make sure that the learner has successfully acquired the competence and he is able to translate the knowledge, skills and attitude into workplace situation.

Topic 2 : Description of assessment techniques: •Inventory: A concept inventory is a test to assess students' conceptual understanding in a subject area • Interest inventory: The Strong Interest Inventory assessment helps individuals identify their work personality by exploring their interests in six broad areas often referred to using the acronym RIASEC:Realistic,Artistic,Investigative,Social,Enterprising, andConventional. • Reading inventory :The reading Inventory is a classroom-based reading test. The Reading Inventory is designed to evaluate students' reading abilities, monitor student reading progress, set goals for reading growth.

Interview 1.Definition A meeting at which people talk to each other in order to ask questions and get informationE.g. a job interview, interview on Tv. 2.Types of interview Based on how interview is planned and conducted, there exist three types of interviews:Structured,Unstructured andSemi-structured. 3.Main purpose of interview The goal is to present yourself as the best candidate for the position and also to learn more about the position 4.Components of interview:An interview is structured into three parts: -Opening the interview and welcoming the candidate, outlining the purpose and structure of the interview. -The body of the interview. The fact-finding part, ask questions and allow the candidate to answer. -Closing the interview.

Assessment Checklist: 1.Definition:Checklists are assessment tools that set out specific criteria,Checklists set out skills, attitudes, strategies, and behaviors for evaluation . 2.Advantages of an assessment checklist:Checklists help people in responsible positions to become more aware of what they should be looking for when assessing a proposed project. Here are seven benefits to using a checklist: oOrganization: Checklists can help us stay more organized by assuring we don’t skip any steps in a process. oMotivation: Checklists motivate us to take action and complete tasks. oProductivity: By having a checklist you can complete repetitive tasks more quickly and efficiently, and with fewer mistakes. oCreativity: Checklists allow you to master the repetitive tasks and utilize more brain power for creative activities. oDelegation: By breaking down tasks into specific tasks checklists give us more confidence when delegating activities. oSaving time: Checklists can literally save time of a task execution. oExcellence: Checklists allow us to be more effective at taking care of subordinates /clients

Questionnaire:A questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of a series of questions for the purpose of gathering information from respondents • 1.Types of questions -Short answer questions,Extended answer questions,Multiple choice questions,Matching type questions,True or False questions,Sentence completion questions,Problem solving questions,Demonstration questions,Analyzing questions,Recall and process questions,Scenarios. 2.Questions sequence in assessment:One of the many ways to avoid survey bias is to use the 'Question Sequence' feature in your survey.

  11. 3.Characteristics of a good questionnaire: A good questionnaire should be valid, reliable, clear, succinct and interesting. The following guidelines must be observed on a good questionnaire - Short in terms of the number and length of questions. - Simple and easily understood. - Avoid personal and sensitive matters. - Elicit the data and information required. - Questions must be orderly and systematically laid out. - Clear instructions with respect to completing the questionnaire.

  12. 4.Good questionnaire design:There are nine steps involved in the development of a questionnaire: - Decide the information required. - Define the target respondents. - Choose the method(s) of reaching your target respondents. - Decide on question content. - Develop the question wording. - Put questions into a meaningful order and format. - Check the length of the questionnaire. - Pre-test the questionnaire. - Develop the final survey form.

Topic 3 : Description on Assessment procedures 1.Assessment timing Different assessmentmethods are best suited to different times 2.Assessors/verifiers A person who is knowledgeable in a particular field and is called upon for advice, typically by a judge or committee of inquiry. -Verification verifies a candidate's certifications or educational claims 3.Role of an assessor:The role of an assessor is to observe learners in their workplace. 4.Role of assessment verifier -Ensure there is a uniform and consistent approach and application of the assessment process; -Ensure that all assessors are assessing and applying competency guidelines to the same standard; -Provide support, advice and guidance to assessors; -Ensure that all assessments and records are accurate and complete.

  14. 5.Assessment tools :The most usable assessment tools are: Checklist,Grading guide,Evaluation of Workshop/Lab reports,Poster presentation,Evaluation of Instruction,Search report process guide,Research paper 6.TVET portfolio:A) Definition:Is a collection of various forms of evidence of achievement of learning outcomes b)Main purpose of Portfolios -Documentation of student progress -Showcasing student accomplishments -Evaluation of student statusb) Main purpose of Portfolios -Documentation of student progress -Showcasing student accomplishments -Evaluation of student status
