Anxiety – Gross Motor Behavior - Open Field Test Observe species-common (behavior: rearing sniffing, grooming) Observe thigmotaxic behavior (stay at walls) 48 cm Place animal in a corner square for a designated amount of time then observe the number of squares transversed, rearing, defecation etc.  Anxiolytics serve to increase exploratory behavior

  5. In your Method you need: Subjects??? Who are they? (age, gender) Where did you get them? (vendor) How are they housed? What is their L/D cycle? Protocol Approval? Apparatus??? What equipment will you be using???? (Model#, City etc…) Open Field Specifics Any other equipment Procedure??? Take notes!!!!

  6. What are your hypotheses? Can have more than one… Rats are nocturnal… Male vs Female… Older Rats….
