History The Indian capital city of Delhi has a long history, and has been an important political center of India as the capital of several empires. Significant prehistoric sites in Delhi include Anangpur (in the Badarpur region), as well as Harappan excavations near Narela and Nand Nagari. References to Delhi's history in ancient literature are based on myths and legends. According to the Hindu epic Mahabharata, a city called Indraprastha, “City of the God Indra”, was the capital of the Pandavas.

Language According to the 50th report of the commissioner for linguistic minorities in India, which was submitted in 2014, Hindi is the Delhi's most spoken language, with 80.94% speakers, followed by Punjabi (7.14%) and Urdu (6.31%).
Culture Delhi's culture has been influenced by its lengthy history and historic association as the capital of India, Although a strong Punjabi Influence can be seen in language, Dress and Cuisine brought by the large number of refugees who came following the partition in 1947. Lotus Temple, is a Bahá'í House of Worship completed in 1986. Notable for its flowerlike shape, it serves as the Mother Temple of the Indian subcontinent and has become a prominent attraction in the city.
Education There are about 500,000 university students in Delhi NCR attending around more than 165 universities and colleges. Delhi has twelve major universities. Education is based on three-tier model which includes primary schools, followed by secondary schools and tertiary education at universities or other institutes of same level.
Sports Delhi has hosted many major international sporting events, including the first and also the ninth Asian Games the 2010 Hockey World Cup, the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2011 Cricket World Cup. Delhi lost bidding for the 2014 Asian Games, and considered making a bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Religion Hinduism is Delhi's predominant religious faith, with 81.68% of Delhi's population, followed by Islam (12.86%), Sikhism (4.0%), Jainism (0.99%), Christianity (0.87%), and others (0.12%).Other minority religions include Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Baha'ism and Judaism.
