  1. How to Scan a Document on a Canon Printer? Multi-function printers include copying and scanning capabilities. Canon produces many printers that allow you to scan to your computer or another location. You must first install the printer, and then you can save the scan in the format and location of your choice.

  2. Part-1Checking the Canon Printer

  3. Steps-1 Connect your printer to your computer If you want to do this wirelessly, you will need to use the display on your printer to connect it to the same wireless network as your computer. Then, your computer should be able to find it on the network. Every printer and computer is slightly different. It is a good idea to read the manual that comes with the printer for full Wi-Fi setup instructions.

  4. Steps-2 Install the software on your computer Insert the CD or download it from the website indicated in the instruction manual. Most multi-function printers have software that must be installed in order to communicate with your printer.

  5. Steps-3Test the printer In order for the scanner to work, the printer must be in full working order. Send a print job to the printer and ensure it completes the job.

  6. Part-2Preparing to Scan

  7. Steps-1Turn on the Canon printer and the computer

  8. Steps-2Lift the lid of the printer Make sure that the glass is free of dust and other items. Use a can of compressed air if it looks dirty. Some Canon printers will also have a document feeder. Make sure this area is free of debris and dust. Check the image on the top of the feeder to see what direction the paper should be loaded.

  9. Steps-3Place the item that you want to scan with the front side down on the glass. Close the lid as fully as you can.

  12. Steps-2Click on the tab that says, “scan” or select the scanner from the list of printer options.

  13. Steps-3Choose the type of document you are scanning and the resolution and format you would like to save it in.

  15. Steps-5 Click the Scan or Preview button at the bottom of the Canon Scan dialogue box. The printer should start showing a preview of the scan in the printer application. Click “Scan” or “Save” a final time to save the file to your computer.
