Concrete cube testing is a crucial process for evaluating the compressive strength of concrete used in construction. It involves preparing concrete slurry, pouring it into cube molds (150mm x 150mm x 150mm), curing the cubes under controlled conditions, and testing them using a compression testing machine. This machine applies increasing loads until the cube crumbles, and the maximum load is recorded. <br>

What is concrete testing? How is it performed? Concrete Cube testing is a process used to evaluate the compaction strength of the concrete material utilised in the construction. Concrete cube testing is followed by pouring the concrete slurry in the cast and then curing the cubes under optimum conditions for certain period of time. After the concrete cube hardens, it is allowed to experience heavy loads with the help of a compression testing machine, and the optimum load bearing capacity before crumbling is recorded. Procedure of Concrete Cube Testing 1. Concrete casting : Concrete slurry is prepared by following standard lab protocols, and then poured into concrete cube molds measuring about 150mm x 150mm x 150mm. The casting should be carried out by eliminating any foreign materials or air bubbles inside the slurry, to achieve perfect results. 2. Curing period: The casted cubes are allowed to cure under controlled lab conditions by immersing the cube in water in a humid curing chamber. The period of time required for the cube to cure is about a week to a month in order to monitor the strength of the concrete cube over the time. 3. Concrete cube Testing: The Concrete cube is subjected to compression testing machine, after getting through the curing period. The compression testing machine
periodically increases the load that is placed on the concrete cube until it crumbles to record the bearing capacity of the concrete cube. The amount of load where the concrete breaks down is recorded, and the compressive strength of the concrete cube is calculated by dividing the recorded load by the cross-section area measurement of the cube. The calculated strength value of the concrete cube is then compared with the compressive strength of the concrete mix which is prepared for the construction of the building, to ensure that the concrete mix meets the required value expected for performance. The Concrete Cube Testing process is very important to ensure the quality and load bearing capacity of the concrete used during the construction.
