  2. What is the Music Cube • It is a wireless cube like object of rubber used to interact with music collection

  3. Purpose of the Music Cube • Make digital music more tangible • Recreate the entire experience of listening to music. (just like using CDs)

  5. Interaction with the Music Cube • Shake cube – Turn it on (4 color side lights come on) • Place a colored side facing upward – Play list selection • Rotate top button – Scrolling through songs in a play list

  6. Press top button – Pauses the music • Briefly holding the button – Volume control • Shake cube (in on state) – Shuffle mode • Placing cube face down and pressing it – Sleep mode

  7. Feedback from the Music Cube • Audio feedback -Play list name, song title • Color Lights and Intensity - Volume Level • Random color display – Shuffle mode • Light flashing in changing color – Music Rhythm • Static color – Current Play list

  8. Evaluation • Shape may prevent it from being carried in pockets (unlike ipod) • Gestures used for each functionality is fuzzy for a 1st time user (like shaking the cube to start it, shake it to get into the shuffle mode) • No feature for attaching headphones

  9. It has a constraint on the maximum number of play lists (4) which is dependent on the number of available visible surfaces • Song search would be a tedious process (since there is no way of knowing which song comes next) • It has high hedonic value • It is a great toy once you know how to interact with it

Possible Future Extension • Light intensity could indicate the power level • Device should automatically turn off lights when power level falls below certain threshold (power saving mode) • Lights could be used to indicate memory space • Patterns may be used with colors • Convert it into a multi-user device • Understand psychology and choose songs accordingly
