A lot of folks contemplate remodeling their homes for a lot of different reasons – the home just needs an update or someone has decided they want bay windows to grow herbs in or maybe some natural disaster has just damaged the place – but, this contemplation does not very often extend to the door handles. The truth is, you might be surprised at how different your home can look just by changing out the external door handles.

Different designer handles most definitely send different messages about the outer appearance of your home!
While we are on the subject of door handles, have you ever considered how different your home might look if you choose bronze door handles instead of shiny steel ones? Bronze will lend a rustic, almost archaic look to your home whereas stainless steel will provide a more contemporary and formal look to your doors. Bronze is a softer shade with almost a romantic feel to it – it brings to mind bygone days when people had only just discovered metal working. It brings to mind the awe-inspiring bronze sculptures of years long gone and, because of this connection, it brings to mind a time when craftsmanship truly mattered, when anything that was made was truly a work of art. I would go with bronze door handles for sure!
Even if bronze door handles were not capable of eliciting such feelings of nostalgia and romance, bronze is almost as sturdy as stainless steel ever was and, for similar reasons. Bronze is an alloy, just like stainless steel is. That means that it is strong and amiable just like stainless steel is. Bronze is also easy to maintain – just wipe your bronze pull handleswith a soft dry cloth and, voila, they are just as clean and nice looking as they were when they were brand new.
Another advantage of bronze is that is easier to mold and shape than stainless steel. You see, stainless steel is alloyed mostly with iron whereas bronze is alloyed with softer metals such as aluminum or tin. The benefit of this is that aluminum and tin are both remarkably strong and solid but, because of their softer nature, they are easier to shape than steel. So, you see, if you go with designer handles instead of stainless steel ones, you will have the benefit of strong door handles coupled with an artistic touch that is just not possible with stainless steel.
No matter what you decide – stainless steel or bronze door handles – do not make the mistake of underestimating the effect that your external door handles will have on the overall look of your home and the message it sends to passers by.
