2. The Dakar Rally The Dakar Rally or simply "The Dakar” is a legendary 15-day off-road race held annually for the past 30 years.  Organized by the Amory Sport Organization, the race is open to both amateur and professional entrants with amateurs typically making up approximately 80% of the starting field.  The Dakar is the ultimate off-road endurance test for drivers and their cars, trucks and motorcycles; it’s called a rally raid rather than a conventional rally - the terrain traversed by competitors is tougher and more grueling than other international rallies. The vehicles used are true off-road vehicles rather than the modified sedans used in rallies. Most of the competitive special sections are off-road with teams crossing sand dunes, mud, camel grass and rocks, and drivers frequently encountering other hazards such as wayward domestic livestock, wild animals and other competitors who may have crashed or broken-down on the course. The distances of each stage of the rally vary from several kilometers up to 800 to 900 kilometers per day. Copied from Wikipedia
