  1. Troubleshoot Multi User Issues in Point of Sale or QuickBooks POS Login Error Here are the recommended solutions to resolve multi-user issues in Quickbooks Desktop Point of Sale. The issues you are experiencing may vary from the workstation not connecting to the server to any of the following: Error: Fixing the Connection Error: You are not connected to the server Error: Specify the Server and Company Data File Point of Sale is grayed out This application has encountered a problem and needs to close POS Message 181002: The Server Workstation is not running or the company data is not accessible Below are the possible reasons why these issues happen:

  2. ● The server is not in multi-user mode Firewall and/or third-party application is blocking the connection between the server and workstation(s) Network connection issues The IP address used is a dynamic IP Network sharing and folder permissions are not configured properly ● ● ● Important Before performing the recommended solutions below, make sure you have: ● Reviewed the Quickbooks Desktop Point of Sale System Requirements. ● Restarted the server and client workstations. ● Restarted the connection and ensured all ports are properly connected. ● Designated client workstations to a local area connection that's connected to the server, and made sure they can communicate with each other. ● Logged in to Windows as an Administrator. Solution 1. Check the Server if Point of Sale is in multi-user mode. From the File menu, go to Switch Company File to Multi User Mode. Solution 2. Use the QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale Connectivity Tool. Follow Download and use QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale Connectivity Tool and perform its recommended fix. If it still doesn’t work, proceed to Solution 3. Solution 3. Edit Windows hosts file. Pro tip: We recommend that your server computer’s IP address should be Static; otherwise, connectivity issues may recur. If you need to ensure that your computer’s IP address is Static, please contact an IT professional. Solution 4. Rename the WS Activity. 1. Open the folder where WSActivity is saved. 2. Location:C:\Program Data\Intuit\QuickBooks Point of Sale XX\Ini 3. Note: XX is the version of your Point of Sale. 4. Right-click the WSActivity file and select Rename. 5. Rename the file to OLDWSActivity. 6. Close and re-open Point of Sale in all workstations. Problems Connecting QuickBooks Point of Sale Workstation to Data File

  3. I received a QuickBooks Point of Sale support call this week from a customer who was having difficulty connecting the client workstation to the POS data file which resides on a 2nd computer (the "POS Server workstation"). This happens occasionally when for whatever reason the POS Server workstation gets rebooted while the client workstation still has POS running. When this happens the connection is lost between the client workstation and the server workstation. Repairing QuickBooks Point of Sale Server Connection to Client Workstation In most instances, rebooting the client machine will solve the problem. However, if this does not solve the problem, follow the steps below in this exact order: 1. Close Point of Sale on the client workstation. 2. Reboot the server workstation. 3. When #2 is 100% complete reboot the client workstation. 4. Launch Point of Sale on the client workstation and it should connect to the POS data file on the server workstation automatically. Invalid Product Code or Invalid Product Number Errors Another connectivity issue that QuickBooks Point of Sale customers face is the Invalid Product Code or Invalid Product Number error, also known as Error Code 176109. This error sometimes appears when upgrading Point of Sale to a newer version, or adding a client license to an

  4. existing Point of Sale network. This also can happen when trying to open or register Point of Sale. This error can result from using an incorrect product code. Verify the product code by clicking on Help > About Point of Sale and looking for the words "Product Number." If the product number is correct, make sure you are logged into Windows as the administrator. Once you have eliminated administrator rights as a possible cause, the most likely culprit is damaged files in the Point of Sale Client Entitlement Folder. Windows 7 and Vista ● To repair these damaged files on Windows 7 and Vista operating systems, click the Start button > Control Panel > Folder Options. ● Choose the "View" tab and select "Show hidden files, folders, or drives" and click OK. ● Click the Windows Start button > Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Program Data > Intuit > Entitlement Client > v8 and press Ctrl + A to select all of the files in the folder. ● Right click the mouse with cursor inside the highlighted folder area and click Delete. ● Now launch QuickBooks Point of Sale. If the problem persists, you will need to uninstall the Point of Sale software and re-install it. Windows 8 ● To fix this on Windows 8 position your mouse in the lower left hand corner until the Start box appears, click on the Start > File Explorer, click on the View tab and check the Hidden Items checkbox. ● Browse to Local Disk (C:) > Program Data > Intuit > Entitlement Client > v8 and press Ctrl + A to select all of the files in the folder. Right click the mouse with cursor inside the highlighted folder area and click Delete. ● Now launch Point of Sale. If the problem persists, you will need to uninstall the Point of Sale software and re-install it.
