  6. Upon Arrival at the Adams Center: Arrive at the “Student Entrance” (between Campus Recreation and the Adams Center)5 – 15 minutes before your shift begins and check-in at the UM Productions table. When you report to the arena floor, find the Stage Manager or Steward and let her/him know you are ready to start working.

  7. Before Leaving the Adams Center: When your supervisor dismisses you from work, check out at the UM Productions table and complete your timecard.

  8. OSHA SAFE LIFTING TIPS • Keep your head and back straight, bend at your hips. • Bring the load as close to you as possible before lifting. • Lift with your legs (not your back). • Shift your feet to turn.

  9. OSHA SAFE LIFTING TIPS • Keep the load directly in front of your body. • Make lifts to waist height with your elbows in close to your body. • Limit lifting by hand; use mechanical lifts when possible. • Stay fit to help avoid injury.

  10. Loaders Guidelines: Pay close attention to the tour loading chief who may give you suggestions that could save your fingers or your life. Always use team lifting techniques. (Make eye contact, verbally communicate to coordinate.)

  11. Loaders Guidelines: Do not stage anything on the sides of the truck ramp while loading/unloading - this area needs to stay clear for loaders to assist. Make sure there are extra hands at the side of the truck ramp when loading and unloading equipment.

  12. Loaders Guidelines: If pieces are stacked watch for “riders” (pieces stacked on top of the load). Be attentive at the bottom of the truck ramp - some items need to be lifted to avoid dragging at this point.

  13. Loaders & Stagehands Guidelines: Always watch for open latches, sharp edges or splintered wood. Avoid reaching near tight spaces, box lids, or beneath pieces.

  14. Loaders & Stagehands Guidelines: Never stand behind a forklift; forklifts sound an alarm when put into reverse, pay attention when you hear it. The bottom of the loading tunnel on the arena floor is a dangerous place, never stand or loiter in that area.

  15. Loaders & Stagehands Guidelines: Always make sure there is plywood laid on the arena floor in the path of a forklift. Pay attention to your fellow crew members - hurry to assist if someone needs help. Never hesitate to ask for a helping hand when you need one!

  16. Loaders & Stagehands Guidelines: If you are new to this work, don’t assume you know the correct way to do something – ask for direction or assistance. When you have completed a task, find the stage manager / steward to ask what is next.

  17. Loaders & Stagehands Guidelines: If you must leave the work site for a few minutes– let the stage manager / steward know you are leaving and how long you expect to be gone.

  18. Loaders & Stagehands Thanks for your work -
