DANIEL 5:4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, and of bronze, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

DANIEL 5:7 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. The king spoke, saying to the wise men of Babylon,
DANIEL 5:7 “Whoever reads this writing, and tells me its interpretation, shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around his neck; and he shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.”

DANIEL 5:12 Inasmuch as an excellent spirit, knowledge, understanding, interpreting dreams, solving riddles, and explaining enigmaswere found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, now let Daniel be called, and he will give the interpretation.”
DANIEL vs BELSHAZZAR • Daniel was named Belteshazzar (1:7). The king’s name was Belshazzar (5:1).
DANIEL vs BELSHAZZAR • Daniel learned the language (1:4) and read the writing on the wall (5:18-28). Belshazzar could not read the writing (5:5-7).
DANIEL vs BELSHAZZAR • 3. In the presence of an official, Daniel refused to drink wine (1:8). Belshazzar drank wine in the presence of his officials (5:1).
DANIEL vs BELSHAZZAR • 4. Daniel was quick to understand (1:4) and to make up his mind (1:8). Belshazzar lost his understanding and could not control his mind (5:2).
DANIEL vs BELSHAZZAR • 5. Daniel refused to defile himself (1:8). Belshazzar defiled the holy vessels (5:22-24).
DANIEL vs BELSHAZZAR • 6. Daniel was given a high position (2:48). Belshazzar lost his high position (5:30, 31).
DANIEL vs BELSHAZZAR • 7. Daniel’s countenance changed for the better (1:13, 15). Belshazzar’s countenance changed for the worse (5:6).
DANIEL 5:13 Then Daniel was brought in before the king. The king spoke, and said to Daniel, “Are you that Daniel who is one of the captives from Judah, whom my father the king brought from Judah?
DANIEL 5:14 I have heard of you, that the Spirit of God is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.
DANIEL 5:15 Now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing and make known to me its interpretation, but they could not give the interpretation of the thing.
DANIEL 5:16 And I have heard of you, that you can give interpretations and explain enigmas. Now if you can read the writing and make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.”
