Diabetes is not a single disease, it brings a lot of complications and serious illnesses related to our heart, limbs, kidneys and eyes along with high sugar levels. In diabetes, the glucose levels of body are not regulated well due to insulin resistance which occurs because of following causes: 1. Obesity or being overweight 2. Reversing diabetes only implies for type 2 diabetes and not for type1 diabetes. Various studies are going all over the world on how insulin resistance can be improved and diabetes can be controlled or reversed. Reduction of HbA1c to six without the need of medication is called as reversing diabetes. Weight Loss: Weight loss is the single most important factor in controlling diabetes. Loss of abdominal fat decreases insulin resistance which helps in better control of body sugar. So shed your extra kilos and start leading a healthier life. This simple carbohydrates are easily utilized and increase the sugar levels in the body instantly. Check the glycemic index of any food item from internet. Foods having high glycemic index are bad for diabetics and those with low index are good. Even in case if you have to consume this type of food out of compulsion (when you are not at home), take lot of salad along with it. Consumption of salad will delay release of sugars from these sources. Consult a dietician and get a diet chart for you. Strict No To High Sugary Foods/Junk foods: The basic principle in diabetes management is that we should take food which increase blood glucose level slowly. Any sugary item like colas, sweets, cookies, cakes, pastries contain a lot of sugar which impairs our blood glucose levels instantly. All diabetics should do daily exercise for 45 mins . So Daily exercise along with remaining active through out the day can work wonders on our sugar control. People with sitting jobs should take breaks after every 1 hr for few minutes. Bariatric Surgery: If despite above measures the weight and the sugar levels are not controlled , you need to consult a bariatric surgeon. Bariatric surgery means that the stomach capacity is reduced by series of procedures. Bariatric surgery is helpful not only in people who are morbidly obese but also in overweight people with uncontrolled sugar despite all the above measures. So don’t get depressed if you are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
