  1. The Four Stages of Gum Disease SG

  2. Stage 1: Gingivitis Gingivitis is characterised by inflammation and bleeding of gums, especially during brushing. It's caused by plaque build-up at the gumline.

  3. Stage 2: Early Periodontitis Below the Surface Pocket Formation Inflammation spreads deeper, with minor bone involvement beginning. Small pockets form between teeth and gums, trapping bacteria. New Symptoms Treatment Needed Persistent bad breath, increased bleeding, and mild discomfort appear. Requires dental cleaning and possibly scaling and root planing.

  4. Stage 3: Moderate Periodontitis Bone Loss Gum Recession Tooth Mobility Notable bone deterioration occurs with deepening gum pockets. Gums recede, exposing more tooth structure to damage. Teeth may loosen or shift position as supporting structures weaken.

  5. Stage 4: Advanced Periodontitis Severe Damage Extensive gum and bone destruction with deep infection pockets. Tooth Instability Teeth become very loose with high risk of loss. Complex Treatment May require gum grafts or surgery to preserve remaining teeth.

  6. Preventing and Managing Gum Disease Daily Hygiene Brush twice daily and floss to remove plaque before it hardens. Regular Check-ups Visit your dentist every six months for professional cleaning and assessment. Early Intervention Seek professional help at first signs of gum problems.
