  7. ASHRAE REGION XIII 9th CHAPTERS REGIONAL CONFERENCE 2006 SUNWAY LAGOON HOTEL RESORT, MALAYSIA 25th & 26th August 2006 CRC Seminar Theme: Sustainability Distinguished Lecturer Profile Carl N. Lawson is a Commissioning Authority for PWI Commissioning Services. Mr. Lawson has been involved in the ASHRAE Commissioning Process since 1984 and has remained active on the respective committees since that time. He has been involved in the commissioning process since 1962 when it was called “Total Quality Management”. Mr. Lawson is a pioneer in the commissioning industry. In 2000 he was awarded the Benner Award for his dedication to the commissioning process. He has also received the ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award. From 1984 to 2000, he taught the Commissioning Course at the University of Wisconsin and now an instructor for the Commissioning Course taught by the Building Commissioning Association. Mr. Lawson has been a contributor to three books; Indoor Air Quality published by AEE, The HVAC Design Process published by ASHRAE, and the latest, The Hospital and Clinic Design Guide, published by ASHRAE. Mr. Lawson is an ASHRAE member, a member of the Handbook Committee, and Chair of Committee for the ASHRAE Position Document on Mold and Mildew. He is a member of GPC-1, HVAC Commissioning, and a member of TC 7.12, Building Commissioning. He has also served as a member of the Standards, Program, Journal and Insights, and Special Publications Committees. Julian R. de Bullet has over 30 years experience in the HVAC industry. His career has concentrated on the applied use of Chilled Water and All-Air systems. Mr. de Bullet is the Director of Industry Relations for McQuay International, based in Washington D.C. and a member of numerous industry associations concentrating on energy efficiency and responsible refrigerant use. As ASHRAE Vice President (2001/2003), he served on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee and was Chair of Member Council and Publishing Council. He is Past President of the National Capital Chapter and was Director and Regional Chair for ASHRAE Region III. He is an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer. He Chairs the Professional Development Committee and is a member of PEC and the Society Nominating Committee Mr. de Bullet is a Graduate of the London University system in England, where he obtained an Electrical Engineering degree and a Diploma in Marketing. Thiam Leong CHEN is the CEO of Primetech Engineers, a consulting engineering firm in Malaysia. He graduated as a Mechanical Engineer (1st Class Hons) from the University of Leeds, England, and has been in the building services industry for over 25 years. He is an audit specialist in the fields of energy, fire and life safety, as well as trouble shooting and has authored numerous articles and papers on Air-conditioning and Refrigeration, CFC issues, Fire Protection, Smoke Management, Energy Issues and Intelligent Buildings. He works tirelessly with the Malaysian Fire Authority on issues such as Halon alternatives, Performance Based Fire Engineering Design and implementation of Fire Certificate Regulation. He was awarded the Fire Services Medal in 1999. Mr Chen is also renowned for his innovative and daring design work which culminated in his award winning design for the New Securities Commission HQ Building in Kuala Lumpur. He works with and encourages local manufacturers to carry out R&D in conjunction with his ideas to successfully manufacture new HVAC products. He is a Past President of the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia; Past President of the Institution of Fire Engineers Malaysia; Advisor to the Malaysia Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Association; and a Past President of the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation in Malaysia.
