  1. How to Get Your Child Interested in Acting So you've been told your child is cute. Well, you knew that all along, but is he or she ready for the world of entertainment? Perhaps you are interested in getting your child involved in acting so that he or she can harness the cuteness and skills into a career, but you're not sure how to get your child interested, or how to get started. Being Honest First be honest. "Finding out if your child truly has what it takes is possible if you're ready to honestly assess his/her talents and skills." But being honest isn't just about deciding if others will see the talent you see; it is also about deciding whether or not your ready for this industry, and whether or not your child is ready. Ask yourself if you're financially prepared to take on what could become a second job. Determine if you have the time, resources and energy to commit to the entertainment industry. Next, determine if your child is ready. Does he or she express an interest in being an actor or is this dream only your dream? Unfortunately casting directors can smell a "fake" from a mile away and if they believe your child is only participating because you want them to, they will not cast your child. Encouraging Your Child Some children, especially those that are very young, are simply unaware of what an actor or model actually is. Have a conversation with your child if she is mimicking Hannah Montana. Ask, "Is that something you would like to do?" If your child admires an actor or a model in a magazine, ask him if he knows what it means to model. Use these questions as conversation starters and gauge your child's level of interest. If your child is beginning to show some interest? If so, a great test is to ask the following question: "If you could be doing anything right now what would it be?" If the answer is something like playing football or coloring, your child's interest may

Don't Be A Stage Parent There is an undeniable trend amongst successful child actors: their parents are all "power parents" rather than what we think of when we hear the term "stage mom." That is, they don't push too hard, they encourage their kids to be themselves, and they keep a positive attitude. All of these things will further encourage your child and lead to success. Follow the Casting Process Finally, know your stuff and do your research. For one, knowing the facts will help you avoid scams within the industry. Additionally, if you know the right way to go about launching your child's career, you won't be spinning your wheels attempting to do things that aren't going to work. For example, you should never be concerned with casting calls for kids before you work on getting an acting or modeling agent for your child.
