  1. Caffeine: Can It Trigger Headaches? Denver Integrated Spine Center 7007 E. Hampden Ave., Denver, CO 80224, United States (303) 758-9000

  2. Caffeine, according to most people, offers fast relief when their head hurts. Research and studies back the same claims, too, noting that caffeine helps reduce inflammation, which can make pain relievers a lot more effective. In fact, it is sometimes possible to stop pain from progressing just by having caffeine alone. The sad truth, however, is that despite the healing effects of caffeine, it can also trigger headaches. Caffeine narrows the blood vessels surrounding the brain. When a regular coffee drinker stops taking caffeine, the blood vessels may expand again, and this can result in pain. Caffeine Withdrawal Well, caffeine does not really cause headaches; the withdrawal from it does. This is because it is not easy for the body to get used to its effect, so the absence of caffeine from the system can cause withdrawal symptoms. It is possible to have headaches, even for people who drink as little as one cup of coffee daily. Caffeine headaches can be moderately painful, with severity depending on the cause. Those who miss their daily dose or consume less than what they do on the regular are most likely to experience this headache. People who get too much caffeine within such a short amount of time are also likely to experience headaches similar to caffeine overdose symptom.

  3. Cutting Back According to the National Headache Foundation, this type of headache usually starts within 18 hours of eliminating caffeine from the body. It is at its worst about three to six hours after starting, and may last up to a week. A report from CNN notes that people who want to cut back on coffee intake or give up completely must to do so carefully. It is not going to be an easy battle, but it is certainly possible. Researchers from John Hopkins University suggest gradually substituting non-caffeinated or decaffeinated products over time to reduce the likelihood of withdrawal symptoms. It is always important to be aware of the effects of migraines. It is also a good idea to keep track of the headaches and the things that seem to help. Headache sufferers can also consult physician or a chiropractor for headache relief.
