  1. CMMI FRAMEWORK SRIKANTH DEVINENI

  2. Process failure is recognised when • Project is delivered late • Too much redundancy • Customer complaints after delivery • Functions do not work correctly • Capital invested is too high.

  3. CMMI • Quality of output is determined by the steps or the process we follow to obtain it. • A process model acts as a guide to obtain a quality output by avoiding redundancy. • CMMI is a mature model that helps to obtain process improvement by - organizing and prioritizing activities - collecting best practices - Coordination of multi-disciplined activities.

  4. WHY NOT CMM • The main aim of the business organizations is to deliver the products at a faster and cheaper rates. A single company cant develop all the components. Some components are built in and some are brought from market. Companies need to manage this complex process. Effective management skills are required for the business success. Many maturity models are available today that help in the process development. But they focus on a specific part of the business and do not give a general approach.

  5. CMMI • The CMMI product team combined the three source models the capability maturity model for software, system engineering capability model, integrated product development capability model.

  6. Purpose of CMMI • Helps in improving the quality of the product. • Helps in reducing the redundancy • Helps in establishing a common framework to all the business practices.

  7. Representation • Continuous representation-: An organization with more knowledge of its own business objectives have a better idea of the processes. Now the organization can choose to improve that particular process or processes that are closely aligned. The continuous representation allows an organization to improve different processes at different rates.

  8. There are six capability levels. • Incomplete, Performed, Managed, Defined, Quantitatively Managed, Optimizing. Capability levels are cumulative, i.e., a higher capability level includes the attributes of the lower levels.

  9. Staged Representation-It offers a systematic, structured way to achieve processes improvement one stage at a time. It has a predefined path that needed to be followed to achive overall improvement. This improvement path is characterized by maturity levels.

  10. There are five maturity levels. • Each level is a layer in the foundation for continuous process improvement using a proven sequence of improvements, beginning with basic management practices and progressing through a predefined and proven path of successive levels.

  11. Advantages Of Each Representation • Staged Representation:Provides a roadmap for implementing • groups of process areas • sequencing of implementation • Continuous Representation:Provides maximum flexibility for focusing on specific process areas according to business goals and objectives

  12. CMF The CMF contains sections for the following: • Front matter • Generic goals and Generic practices • Process areas • Glossary

  13. Constellation Groups of model components, training material are called constellations. Each constellation consists of the following: • The CMF • Groups of additions used to create CMMI models with in that constellation • Appropriate training material

  14. Three complementary constellations used are • CMMI-DEV • CMMI-SVC • CMMI-ACQ

  15. Benefits Of CMMI • More linkage of management and engineering activities • Improved visibility into product life cycle. • Common terminology across multiple disciplines. • More robust high maturity practices.
