Boone Co. ATC Hosts First Annual High School Car Show

1. Boone Co. ATC Hosts First Annual High School Car Show Boone Co. ATC Auto Body Repair Instructor John Thomas wanted to raise awareness of his program in an effort to attract potential students as well as exhibit the work of his current students. To help achieve these goals, he decided to hold a car show sponsored by the auto body repair program. The show was held on Sunday, April 27, from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Conner High School parking lot. “Many of our students enter car shows that include adult participants who have professional show cars,” said Thomas. “The purpose of our car show was to hold a competition for high school students only. This provided a positive competitive avenue for all our kids in the area. Equally important, it provided an environment for the kids to connect with each other and our school.” The car show was promoted through fliers developed by the ATC’s auto body repair students, collaboration with the Conner H.S. media class and the other four high schools that send students to the ATC.

2. Best Lowrider Winner – Brian Bornhorst “Lucky 13,” a local band from Conner High School, provided musical entertainment for the show. In order to participate, each individual was required to be a high school student and show a student I.D., fill out an official entry form, and pay a $5 entry fee for each event. Approximately 50 vehicles were entered in the competition. The boys division included the following winners: Best Car - Richard Bowlin, senior, diesel technology Best Truck - Billy Lemming, senior, auto body repair Best Lowrider - Brian Bornhorst, senior, auto body repair Best Junker - Nicholas Rossow, senior, auto body repair The girls division included the following winners: Best Stereo - Tracey Thomas, Conner H.S. Best Car - Katy Mahan, Conner H.S.

3. Winner of the Principal’s Trophy for Best In Show was presented to Rick Bowlin (pictured at right), a senior at Conner High School. His entry was a 1969 Chevy Chevelle SS396. Audio Works, a local stereo shop, sponsored the “Best Stereo” categories. Trophies were paid for using entry fee money and all proceeds from the show were put into the auto body repair supply budget.   Lincoln Electric sponsored door prizes for the event and LSI Images provided the banner for the car show.   “This car show promoted our school involved in a positive activity,” said Principal Al Tucker. “The competition provided students with an interesting, safe and worthwhile activity.
