IMPORTANT PROPERTIES • Hardness - from 25 to 100 • Resilience- To spring back to its original shape after being subjected to pressure • Evenness- To maintain an even supply of ink • Chemical Resistance- Resistant to ink, fountain solutions, and cleaning agents. • Dimensional stability-Roller needs to remain in proper shape and size even after use

  11. RESILIENCE- critical for inking roller Resilience is elasticity or spring effect Higher resilience means lower pressure setting Lower pressure setting means • Less friction and wear out of plate • Less heat generated and longer life for roller

  12. Damping rollers required properties • Must be inert in aqueous media • Must have high affinity for water • - Low surface tension for rubber compound • Bareback damping forme roller perfectly even • Alcohol damping – high resistance to alcohol

  13. ROLLER CARE • 1. Have Spare set to avoid downtime of your expensive machines. • 2. Store the rollers in a cool place • 3. Keep Rollers in a storage rack or the packing box • 4. Handle Carefully- Avoid contact with sharp edges • 5. Ensure bearings are in good condition • 6. Cleaning the roller

  14. CLEANING THE ROLLER • Ink should not be allowed to dry on the roller • When machine stops clean roller with a two step wash. • Clean roller should have a dull velvet finish of a new roller.

TROUBLE SHOOTING OFFSET ROLLER PROBLEMS PROBLEMS CAUSE SOLUTION DUE TO ROLLERS OTHER THAN ROLLERS SCUMMING DIRTY OR GREASY DAMPENING ROLLER IMPROPER INK WATER BALANCE WASH THE ROLLERS THOROUGHLY.IF WORN REGRIND OR REPLACE DEFECTIVE ROLLERS PLATE SURFACE SCRATCHED SMALL HARD PARTICLES EMBEDDED IN THE ROLLER FOREIGN MATTER ON BLANKET OR IN INK HORIZONTAL STREAK GLAZED INKING FORME ROLLERS FORME ROLLER SET TOO TIGHTLY AGAINST PLATE RESET IFR TO PROPER PRESSURE AGAINST PLATE SCUM STREAKS ACROSS PLATE GLAZED INKING FORME ROLLERS DAMPENING ROLLERS SET TOO TIGHTLY AGAINST THE PLATE RESET AT PROPER PRESSURE UNEVEN STRIP DURING STRIP TEST ROLLERS UNEVEN ACROSS DIA GRIND OR REPLACE INK FLOW IN FINE DROPLETS OR FILAMENTS ROLLERS IN POOR CONDITION INCORRECTLY SET ROLLERS RESET CORRECTLY OR REPLACE INK FEEDS IN PATCHES GLAZED ROLLERS,LOW SPOTS, BENTSPINDLE TOO MUCH DAMPING SOLUTION OR GUM BLANKET CONTAMINATED PAPER    REMOVE THE GLAZE WITH A STEP WASH UP SOLUTION GHOSTING GLAZED OR HARD ROLLERS POOR INK AFFINITY CHECK, REGRIND OR REPLACE IF HARDNESS IS ABOVE 40 NON UNIFORM PRINTING ROLLERS IN POOR CONDITION IMPROPERLY SET IFR CHECK THE CONDITION AND RESET IFR INK REPELLING SPECKS OR DOTS FOREIGN PARTICLE PRESENT IN THE PITTED ROLLER PRESENCE OF PAPER FIBRE, FOREIGN MATTER ON THE PLATE         RECONDITION ROLLER   CLEAN THE  PLATES
