Down syndrome is one of the known genetic disorders, in which an individual has an extra full or partial copy of chromosome 21. <br><br>Human beings have 23 pairs of chromosomes combinely received from biological father and mother.<br><br>This abnormal cell division, down syndrome, causes many issues relating to the intellectual ability, physical features, learning ability and developmental delays in an affected child.

  2. Down syndrome is one of the known genetic disorders, in which an individual has an extra full or partial copy of chromosome 21. Human beings have 23 pairs of chromosomes combinely received from biological father and mother. This abnormal cell division, down syndrome, causes many issues relating to the intellectual ability, physical features, learning ability and developmental delays in an affected child.

  4. It is the situation in which during the conception either father or mother’s pair of chromosome 21 failed to split. As a result the embryo has three chromosomes-21 instead of two. Trisomy 21 Down Syndrome: When the cell starts to replicate, the extra copy of chromosome 21 also gets replicated. This is the most common down syndrome in all the three.

  5. It is quite similar to Trisomy 21, yet in here the additional chromosome 21 is attached to one of the other chromosomes. Translocation Down Syndrome: Thus, the total number remains the same as 46 chromosomes.

  6. This syndrome also known by the name “Mosaicism”, is the situation in which only some of the cells- not all the replicated cells- have this extra copy chromosome 21.
