  3. Equipment & Materials 67

  4. Anesthetic Machine Medical device used to generate and mix a fresh gas flow of medical gases and inhalational anaesthetic agents for the purpose of inducing and maintaining anaesthesia.

  5. Autoclave Autoclaves are also known as steam sterilizers, and are typically used for healthcare or industrial applications. An autoclave is a machine that uses steam under pressure to kill harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores on items that are placed inside a pressure vessel.

  6. Autoclave Tape Indicator Autoclave tape is an adhesive tape used in autoclaving (heating under high pressure with steam to sterilise) to indicate whether a specific temperature has been reached. Autoclave tape works by changing color after exposure to temperatures commonly used in sterilization processes

  7. Backhand Towel Indicator It is a perforating clamp used for grasping tissue, securing towels or drapes, and holding or reducing small bone fractures

  8. Balling Gun A Balling Gun is a tool used in veterinary medicine to administer oral medications such as pills, boluses, or magnets to livestock

  9. Bandaging Material- Elasticon Elastic Tape is a high twist, cotton elastic cloth tape with a rubber-based adhesive; designed to help provide elasticity needed for dynamic/pressure dressings requiring elasticity

  10. Bandaging Material- Gauze Roll Gauze is widely used for medical dressings.

  11. Bandaging Material- Vet Wrap It sticks to itself but not other surfaces, and its elastic quality is durable and provides firm support as well as enough pressure to stop bleeding. When it is properly applied with padding such as gauze pads, it will not cut off circulation.

  12. Bands (castration or docking) Rubber ring (or band) to the tail or scrotum using an elastrator tool. The band cuts off the blood supply causing the tail/testis to fall off in 7 to 10 days

  13. Catheter- IV An intravenous catheter is a small, flexible tube made of plastic that is inserted into a vein, usually in the arm or leg, to deliver fluids or medications or to measure pressure.

  14. Catheter- Tomcat Urinary A catheter-tomcat urinary is a type of feline urinary catheter that is used to relieve urethral obstruction in male cats

  15. Cautery Pencil Burning a part of a body to remove or close off a part of it. It destroys some tissue in an attempt to mitigate bleeding and damage, remove an undesired growth, or minimize other potential medical harm, such as infections when antibiotics are unavailable

  16. Centrifuge Centrifuges are used to separate blood cells from plasma, to prepare urine samples for microscopy, and to purify proteins. Centrifugation is also used to measure the density of substances such as feces and vomit.

  17. Chemical Indicator Strips Chemical Indicator Strips Strips coated in one or more chemicals that undergo a physical or chemical change that is visible to the human eye after exposure to predetermined critical parameters. This change is used to detect sterilization failures.

  18. Dehorner- Barnes A Barnes dehorner is a hinged, closed set of sharp scoops which is placed over the animal's horn against the base and surrounding skin to remove the horn.

  19. Dehorner- Electric An electric dehorner is a tool used to dehorn calves, sheep, and goats with no loss of blood

  20. Dental/Power Float For equine dental care

  21. Dental scaler A dental scaler is a hand-held device that has a metallic end shaped like a hook or curved blade.

  22. Large Animal Ear Tagger Ear notching provides: A permanent, inexpensive identification system, and Individual identity for animals

  23. Ear Notcher Ear notching provides: A permanent, inexpensive identification system, and Individual identity for animals

  24. Elastrator Bloodless method of male castration and docking commonly used for livestock. Elastration is simply banding the body part (scrotum or tail) until it drops off.

  25. Electronic ID Reader Electronic ID tagging is a standard method of identification for animals. It involves implanting a sterile, sealed microchip transponder underneath the animal's skin. The microchip can be easily checked by reading equipment used by veterinary practitioners and animal welfare agent

  26. Elizabethan Collar (E-Collar) An Elizabethan collar, E collar, pet ruff or pet cone is a protective medical device worn by an animal, usually a cat or dog. (sometimes humorously called a treat funnel, lamp-shade, radar dish, dog-saver, or cone of shame)

  27. Emasculators An emasculator is a tool used in the castration of livestock. Its function is to simultaneously crush and cut the spermatic cord, preventing hemorrhaging while still detaching the testis from the animal

  28. Endotracheal Tubes An endotracheal tube is often used during surgery and in emergency situations. It is typically placed when a person is unable to breathe on their own.

  29. Fecal Loop A fecal loop is a small plastic wand with a small loop on the end. After applying lubricant, your veterinarian can gently insert the loop into your pet’s rectum and collect a sample of fecal material.

  30. Fecalyzer Fecalyzer is a disposable and standardized system made to diagnose parasites in all animals.

  31. Fetal Extractor- Calf Fetal Extractor is a precision veterinary instrument designed to deliver calves quickly and safely, with less effort

  32. Forceps- Allis Tissue Allis clamp is a surgical instrument with sharp teeth, used to hold or grasp heavy tissue. It is also used to grasp fascia and soft tissues such as breast or bowel tissue.

  33. Forceps- Babcock Tissue Babcock Forceps are ratcheted, finger ring, and non-perforating forceps and are widely used to grasp delicate tissues during surgical procedures.

  34. Forceps- Brown Adson Thumb These forceps are non-locking and may or may not have teeth. They are used for the manipulation and grasping of tissues during surgery

  35. Forceps- Crile Crile forceps are mainly used for blocking small or medium sized vessels during surgery to reduce blood loss. They are also used to clamp tissue prior to cauterization or ligation

  36. Forceps- Kelly Kelly forceps are a type of medical forceps that are used to grasp small objects in tight spaces.

  37. Forceps- Rat Tooth Thumb Rat tooth forceps are a type of thumb forcep with interdigitating teeth that can grasp skin and dense tissue without slipping

  38. Forceps- Rochester Carmalt Rochester Carmalt Forceps are hemostatic clamps used to stop blood flow

  39. Hog snare Snares for capturing feral hogs are commonly placed under fences where hogs are known to cross. These “crawls” can be identified by tracks on the trail or hair caught on the fence.

  40. Hoof knife used to trim and shape the hooves of horses and other animals with hooves

  41. Hoof rasp Course file for shaping animals hooves

  42. IV Fluid bag bag containing the solution the patient needs

  43. Muzzle- Basket They don’t force a dog’s mouth closed. Instead, the basket piece stands between your dog’s teeth and some unsuspecting dog’s leg or fingers

  44. Muzzle- Nylon Soft muzzle that wraps around a dog’s mouth.

  45. Needle Holder- Olsen Hegar Olsen Hegar Needle Holder is a ratcheted-finger needle holder used for holding needles and cutting sutures within the same instrument

  46. Obstetrical Chain and Handle The obstetrical chain and handle are used in assisting complex birth deliveries in animals

  47. Ophthalmoscope Ophthalmoscope, instrument for inspecting the interior of the eye

  48. Otoscope Instrument designed for visual examination of the eardrum and the passage of the outer ear, typically having a light and a set of lenses

  49. Pig tooth nippers Nippers are for clipping the sharp needle teeth of baby pigs, thus preventing damage to the sow’s teats, and to avoid the piglets fighting/biting each other.

  50. Rumen magnet Rumen magnet is used in veterinary medicine to prevent and treat traumatic indigestion in cattle caused by ferromagnetic foreign bodies in the reticulum and rumen. The magnet traps all the magnetic metals and immobilizes the mass, reducing the chances of injury
