Interested in any of the following…… • Do you watch Dragons Den/The Apprentice? • See yourself as the next Richard Branson? • Have a wacky idea for a new product/ service? • Enjoy using Roller Coaster Tycoon in ICT lessons, fancy building upon this and finding out how theme parks are really set up? • Fancy learning how to make a successful TV advert to advertise a product of your choice? • Enjoyed taking part in Enterprise challenges already at school? If yes……. Business Studies is the subject for you!!!

Why choose Business Studies? • Interested in any of the following???? • Should David Beckham be allowed to earn £120,000 per week, when some people in poorer countries earn only $1 per day? • Companies like the body shop claim to be ethical. Is testing on animals acceptable? • Should the government raise tax on petrol or on 4 wheel drives to help reduce pollution? • Why is it so expensive to put an advert on TV during the break for Coronation Street? • Should the UK join the Euro? What effect will this have on us? How will it affect businesses? • Why do shops have sales?

What does this lesson involve? • Case study work • Written and practical exercises • Keeping up to date with the news/current affairs (watching Newsround at least!!) • Developing your ICT skills • Group and pair work • Discussions and debates • Using the internet to relate theory to real world businesses.

GCSE BUSINESS STUDIES TAKES ONE OPTION BLOCK WORTH ONE GCSE CAN BE DONE IN EITHER Y10 OR Y11 GCSE BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS TAKES ONE OPTION BLOCK WORTH ONE GCSE (MIXTURE OF ICT AND BUSINESS STUDIES) CAN BE DONE IN EITHER Y10 OR Y11 BTEC BUSINESS TAKES TWO OPTION BLOCKS WORTH UP TO 4 GCSES (ALL COURSEWORK – NO EXAMS!!) CAN BE DONE IN YEAR 9 AND YEAR 10

Which one should I pick? • GCSE BUSINESS – if you want a good grounding in Business Studies, are organised and prepared to put in revision for an exam at the end. • GCSE BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS – if you want to learn about the Business world whilst at the same time developing your ICT skills this is the course for you • BTEC BUSINESS STUDIES – you don’t like exams (there are none on this course!) but are organised and work hard on projects!

  7. Will Business Studies be a good option for me to take? • You need to be organised!! • To be interested in current affairs • You should like reading • You should be confident with maths • Have good communication skills • Be able to listen to others and respect their opinions.????
