  2. WHAT'S THE MAIN IDEA? The main idea tells you what the story is mostly all about! It is the most important point of a paragraph or story.

  3. HOW DO I FIND THE MAIN IDEA? *Check the first and last sentences. Sometimes the main idea is found here! *Look for words that are repeated. Look at the title and pictures.

  4. CAN YOU FIND THE MAIN IDEA? It is often said that lightning never strikes twice in the same place, but this isn’t true. Go ask the forest rangers. Rangers who spend their summers as fire-fighters will tell you that every thundershower brings several bolts of lightning to their lookout stations.
