OFF PAGE ARTICLE FIRST AID TIPS FOR A KNOCKED OUT TOOTH Losing a tooth due to a fall, interpersonal violence or a sports injury is a common occurrence. Losing a tooth, especially a front tooth can be quite a traumatic experience for anyone, young or old. If you happen to knock out your tooth, or come across someone who has just had their tooth knocked out, the right thing to do would be to rush to the nearest dental clinic. If you get there in good time, there is a high possibility of the tooth being saved. If a child loses a milk tooth, then you need not worry much. Just stop any bleeding by asking the child to bite onto some clean cotton or by icing the area, while you take the child to the dentist. The dentist will take a couple of radiographs and decide whether a space maintainer is needed or not. On the other hand, if a child or adult gets a permanent tooth knocked out, there is a chance to save the tooth. Lift the tooth very gently and rinse it with cool running water without rubbing or scrubbing the root. Rinse your mouth with cool water and gently try to place the tooth back into the socket. If there is bleeding or pain and you are unable to place the tooth in the socket, you can place the tooth in your mouth, between your gums and cheek and rush to the nearest dentist. You could also carry the tooth to the dentist in a cup of milk or saline water. If you reach the dentist within 20 minutes to an hour of the tooth coming off, there are higher chances of the tooth being saved.
