  1. Signs That You Should Immediately Take Your Dog To The Animal Hospital Most pet owners know their animals well, and because dogs are so expressive, many owners know when they’re feeling under the weather or have gotten hurt. However, sometimes, if the dog is feeling sick or has been hurt, it can be difficult to assess whether or not you need to wait to take your dog to the vet or if they have to visit the animal hospital as soon as possible. It can be incredibly daunting if your dog becomes unwell or sick or has been badly hurt on the weekend or even late at night. However, what most pet owners don’t know is that most veterinary practices, and particularly animal hospitals, will have emergency rooms and emergency vets on call for these occasions. It is always better to take your dog to the vet if he exhibits any signs that he may need immediate attention. Not many dog owners know how to check whether or not an illness or injury is serious enough to require emergency attention, but there are a few things that you can look out for and that you should never ignore. The first thing to know is that if your dog has a very swollen and rock-hard tummy or severe bloating, this is very serious and you should never wait to take them to the hospital. This is because a distended and hard abdomen can be the sign of anything from liver dysfunction to heart failure, uterine infection, or even internal bleeding. Most pet owners will know their dogs well enough to be able to pick up on the signs of an overly swollen and hard tummy, but many may think it’s not serious enough to require immediate attention. However, because it can be the result of a wide range of illnesses and diseases, ranging in severity, it is always best to seek emergency attention for your beloved dog. The second thing to know is that it is important to educate yourself regarding known toxins to dogs. This is because if your dog accidentally swallows a toxin, there is usually a very short time period left to get them to the vet before the effects can be incredibly detrimental. The thing to know is that a dog that has ingested a known toxin or poison should be rushed to the emergency animal hospital as soon as possible. Known toxins include OTC medication such as painkillers, avocado, chocolate, grapes and raisins, slug pellets or bait, tulips and daffodils (the bulbs), azaleas and rhododendrons, and the artificial sweetener known as Xylitol. Any of these toxins are poisonous to dogs and will cause them to fall ill really fast. Get them to the vet as soon as possible. The third thing to watch for is intense pain and discomfort as well as vomiting and diarrhea. Fortunately, most pet owners know that these symptoms call for emergency attention. If your pet is displaying signs of being in extreme pain or extreme discomfort, to the point that they may be vocalizing or listless, or shy away from being touched, it is necessary to rush them to the vet as soon as possible. They may have badly injured themselves, even if it is not visible to the naked eye. Additionally, a dog that is vomiting or that has diarrhea can easily dehydrate and that is why it is so important to get them to the animal hospital as soon as possible. The final thing to look for may be difficult to pick up on but is important nonetheless. If your pet is not urinating or urinating with difficulty or pain, it is very important to get them to a vet as soon as possible. This could be a sign of a bladder infection or something much worse.

  2. Regardless of the signs and symptoms that your dog is showing, it is always important to get them to a vet or animal hospital as soon as possible.
